A factor to take in consideration for a successful endodontic treatment is an accurate preparation of the third mesiobucal canal of the mandibular first molars. First of all, an in vitro study was performed to compare the removal dentin produced by Gates Glidden (GG) and LA Axxess (LA) drills on the thinnest layer of the dentin thickness measure in the risk area. Ninety mesiobucal canals of the mandibular first molars were randomly categorized into two groups, each group, of 45 canals; the roots were sectioned at 3mm from the cementoenamel junction. In addition, CT–scan images were captured, and the dentin thickness was measured in milimetres before and after the instrumentation with the QR NNT 2.21 software. In fact, date were statistically analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test. LA Axxess drills showed more removal on dentin thickness of the cervical mesiobucal canal than the Gates Glidden drills, although, the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.009). Hence, it is concluded that the use of either of the two tested drills renders similar result.

Background: The gold standard to diagnose second molars with C-shaped root canals prior to beginning an endodontic and restorative treatment is cone-beam tomography. Tomographic services are hard to access and have a low distribution in dental clinics this has led us to design an alternative technique in panoramic radiographs named «evidence of the obtained angle» (EAO). Objective: The aim of this study was to create a breakpoint and estimate its diagnostic accuracy through a pilot study; its results will be used in a future investigation of validation of diagnostic tests. Methods: The pilot study included 37 cone-beam computed tomographies (CBCT) of a database property of the authors, which included their respective panoramic reconstruction, to which the technique EAO was applied; its results were validated applying diagnostic tests. A total of 74 second mandibular molars were analyzed. Results: A prevalence of 39.19 second molars with C-shaped root canal was obtained (CI 95%: 27.39:50.99), of which 61.11% corresponded to female patients. The breakpoint retrieved was of 6.9 degrees, the sensitivity was of 89.66% (IC 95% 76.85: 100.00), specifi city 93.33% (IC 95% 84.93:100.00), index of validity 91.89% (IC 95% 85.00:98.79) positive predictive value 89.66% (IC 95% 76.85:100.00) and negative predictive value 93.33% (IC 95% 84.93:100.00), index of Youden 0.83 (IC 95% 0.70:0.96), positive

The number of roots and dental lengths of the maxillary first premolars can be very variable; the factors that influence are in relation with sex, geography and ethnicities for which they have been extensively studied. The objective of this study was to determine the number of roots and dental length of the first maxillary premolars through computed tomography of conical beam. The present study was descriptive, observational and retrospective type. It was performed on 49 tomographies using conical beam computed tomography, It was observed the number of roots of the first maxillary premolar and was determined the length of the first premolars maxillars, finally the data were grouped according to sex. The data were analyzed using the NNT software viewer, through axial cuts was obtained the number of roots and for the length cuts following the longitudinal axis of the tooth. 56.6% exhibited one root and 43.4% had two roots. Of the unirradicular premolars, the median length was 20.1mm; In the birradiculars, the vestibular roots measured 19.6 mm; While in the palatal roots it was 19.9mm. The highest prevalence found was of a root and it was possible to establish that the length can not be expressed in a single value because it is a multiradicular tooth

Periodo 2012 - 2016
(2017) García Córdova, Jamilet Estefanía; Alvarez Palacios, Cintya Maribel; Astudillo Ortiz, Esteban Andrés
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this thesis is to perform an epidemiological study of the patients treated in the clinique area of Endodontics of the Faculty of Dentistry of University of Cuenca. METHODS: This is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional epidemiological study in a universe of 683 patients treated with endodontic pathology. The variables studied were sex, age, affected piece, sensitivity tests, duct characteristics (number of ducts and conductometry), medication use, preparation and obturation technique; and diagnosis. The method of data collection was the survey, the technique documentary observation, and the instrument the questionnaire with closed questions. The data were elaborated and analyzed in the statistical software Epi Info V.7.1. The data analysis was done by percentage, average and standard deviation. RESULTS: The most frequent pathology was Irreversible Symptomatic Pulpitis (27.09%), 4.39% received systemic medication among these antibiotics as amoxicillin, mainly in chronic and acute apical abscess; Anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and analgesics such as acetaminophen for asymptomatic apical periodontitis. The most commonly used technique was recoil, used mostly in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. The most commonly used technique was lateral condensation, which was applied mainly for symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. CONCLUSIONS: The most frequent pulp pathology presented was Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis, which is also the most frequent in men, women, adolescents and adults. The percentage of use of systemic and intraconductive medication is very low. The most used technique of preparation was of recoil and the one of obturation was the lateral condensation

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine in vitro the apical leakage endodontic sealers using two cement sealers, one based on calcium hydroxide (Sealapex) and another based MTA (Fillapex) in 60 extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars. Methods: Each tooth was subjected to a cursory cleaning process organic tissue, the teeth were standardized to a length of 16mm from tip by diamond disks, biomechanics preparation was performed using the technique step back, separated random samples into three groups, two of 30 pieces each and a group of 5 pieces for controlling ink penetration. The lateral condensation technique using Sealapex in the first 30 and MTA Fillapex in the other 30 are used for sealing of 60 pieces. The pieces were submerged in individual dispensers with ink for 7 days and were subjected to a process of diaphanisation. Each piece was evaluated by digital microscopy (MicroCapture) with a 20x objective recording length in millimeters apical leakage. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the apical leakage between the MTA (Fillapex) and calcium hydroxide (Sealapex)

Regeneración de la pulpa dental. Una revisión de la literatura
    (2018) Astudillo Ortiz, Esteban Andrés
The aim of this paper is the literature review since January 2013 until December 2017 in order to fi nd the current approach of tissue engineering to regenerate dental pulp. A bibliographic review was made on December 2017 in the PubMed search engine using the descriptors: dental regeneration, pulp regeneration and dental pulp regeneration. The trend of the last fi ve years is mainly directed to the study of stem cells and few of these studies have focused on signaling molecules. It was concluded that the DPSC were the most used, scant scaff olding studies used collagen, a blood clot, platelet-rich plasma, and a variety of signaling molecules where the use of dentine fragments in their diff erent forms prevails; a similar number of in vivo and in vitro studies were used.
