Item Prevalencia del síndrome de boca urente en pacientes adultos: mayores a 30 años en los Hospitales Vicente Corral Moscoso, Municipal y Clínicas de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca. junio 2013- junio 2014.(2014) Astudillo Campoverde, Priscila Carolina; Benalcázar Arias, María Verónica; Palacios Astudillo, Pablo Andrés; Astudillo Ochoa, Johnny CamiloBurning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a disease known for many years, which remains a challenge for diagnosis and treatment. Objective: To determine the prevalence of burning mouth syndrome in adults older than 30 years in three health facilities of Canton Cuenca: Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Hospital Municipal and Clinics of Dentistry and describe the characteristics of patients with burning mouth syndrome (SBU). Methods: Using a descriptive design information was collected on a form, previously designed and validated for the effect of clinical history and by direct interview to 88 patients diagnosed with SBA. The study was performed in a year from June 2013 to June 2014. Results: The average age of our study was 37 years with a standard deviation of +/-15.3%. Patients had burning across the tongue with a 20.5% of the study population, there was a significant association with dry mouth p = 0.016. The diseases studied showed no association with the syndrome p = 0.294. Within psychological disorders were associated with increased frequency of depression and anxiety p = 0.049. The drugs most used by patients were hypotensive and antidiabetic, being not significant. Smoking cigarette is a risk factor with an OR = 1.8 (95% CI :0.7-4 .4). The SBU has no significant association with the use of dental prostheses p = 0.519. Conclusions: The prevalence is 0.62% in our media. There is significant association between burning tongue and dry mouth, as with psychological disorders. Was presented mainly in females in a ratio of 2 to 1. Significance was not associated with pathologies, drug use and cigarette addiction. KEYWORD: Burning mouth.
