The Desmodium genre has been extensively studied due to its wide pharmacologic use associated to flavonoids; which are generally identified by the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), since for the development of this technique is important to take into account the most relevant chromatographic variables and due to the scarce existence of investigations in which information is collected and compared on the different chromatographic methodologies, this bibliographic review was made with the main objective of establishing an informative database about the different chromatographic fingerprint methodologies and their differences, between the principal species of the Desmodium genre. It began with an exhaustive search for original articles that have been published in English and Spanish since 2010 about the methodology and the results obtained from the fingerprints by the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the main species of the Desmodium genre. The analysis of a total of 18 articles allowed to obtain a comparative database, the same that facilitated the determination of the most relevant variables like the extractive processes, the analyses conditions, and the identified metabolites, resulting in the prominent use of C18 particle columns along with a mobile phase made up of an organic solvent and an acidified aqueous solution, and it was verified that most of the studies determined flavonoids as their main secondary metabolites, of which vitexin, isovitexin, schaftoside and isoschaftoside appear as common peaks among the chromatograms
