    Alteraciones de la calidad del sueño y factores de riesgo asociados en trabajasdores de la empresa Hidropaute de la Ciudad de Cuenca 2014

    Objective: to determine the presence of alterations in the quality of sleep and associated risk factors in workers of the Hidropaute Company in the city of Cuenca, 2014. Material and Methods: this is a descriptive study, which was conducted at the Company Hidropaute. We worked with a sample of 193 workers who expressed their desire to participate in it and signed the consent. As a technique for data collection we used the Questionnaire Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and a form with objective questions which groups the variables, the questionnaire used was developed by the authors; for data analysis was used the descriptive statistics and the prevalence ratio with the value of chi square and p value on the statistical significance was used; we developed a database using the SPSS and Excel and Word programs tables that group the variables with their statistical analysis. Results: the study analyzed the results of the Questionnaire of Pittsburgh and found that 57.5% had no sleep problems (good sleepers) and 42.5% of workers have trouble sleeping (poor sleepers), including 35 8% between age of 25 to 45 years; 28.5% of married employees, 39.4% of men, 31.1% of those living in urban areas, 19.7 of those with a disease, 32.6% that work more than 8 hours per day and 34 , 7% that do not work night shifts are poor sleepers. Conclusions: the study allowed us to determine the presence of alterations in sleep quality and associated risk factors in workers at the Hidropaute Company Cuenca, 2014.

    Aplicación de las normas de bioseguridad en el cuidado de enfermería en pacientes que ingresan al área de infectología Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca, 2013

    Objective: The present study aims to assess the implementation of biosafety standards in nursing care in patients admitted to the Infectious area Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. Methods and Materials: his approach was descriptive quantitative because it allowed the statistical analysis of the information obtained through observation and survey conducted by nurses in the area of Infectious Diseases. The study included all the nursing staff consisting of 45 people, of which 7 were not involved in the research. Results: predominance of hand washing when entering, leaving the area, prior and after seeing patients fulfilled the lawyer otherwise in the case of the auxiliary and internal nursing whose applicability of the standard staff is less than expected. All nurses classifies contaminated waste and common, do not perform decontamination of needles and syringes with bleach solution 0.5% but short stabbing deposited in the appropriate container. Wearing gloves in handling contaminated secretions patients and is used by all nurses. Conclusion: The nursing staff does not apply biosafety regulations in the area of Infectious Diseases, starting with the application of proper technique of hand washing, daily cleaning of the patient's unit, the use of barriers used in the area.     Aplicación de los patrones funcionales en los estudiantes de la Carrera de Enfermería, Cuenca 2015

    GENERAL BACKGROUND. The functional nursing assessment is a key for any nurse intervention; the functional patterns of Marjory Gordon allows us to obtain relevant information about various aspects that mould the person as a whole being. OBJECTIVE. Apply the functional patterns to the students pursuing a degree in nursing at the University of Cuenca, 2015 METHODOLOGY. This is a qualitative research, and the technique used, interview six focal groups of students from the undergraduate nursing course at the University of Cuenca, for their respective analysis that includes aspects of the person and their environment. The 11 Functional Patterns were considered as categories. RESULTS. There are patterns that are influential in student life such as health perception and management, though nursing students are innovated about how to stay healthy, they do not put it into practice and are affected in their physical and emotional health; in the cognitive - perceptual there are visual problems, memory changes, hesitation, they have difficulty in the decision making process and learning problems in the career; and the role patter - relationships where students leave their families for their studies, many are lonely and not integrated; at intership there is a bad employment situation. CONCLUSIONS. This research allowed us to apply the functional patterns of Marjory Gordon on the nursing students, describing various aspects that are part of a person and make it a unique, comprehensive, holistic being.

    Autonomía funcional, psíquica y elaboración de diagnósticos de enfermería con la taxonomía nanda en los adultos mayores del Centro Geriátrico Santa Ana. Cuenca, 2014.

    Objective. To determine the functional, psychological autonomy and develop nursing diagnoses in the NANDA taxonomy seniors Geriatric Center Santa Ana. Cuenca, 2014. Methodology. It is a descriptive research quantitative. We work with a finite universe of adults over 38, which is 100% of the nursing home, more revenue in the next 4 months of research. Katz Index, Tinetti scale for functional assessment, cognitive assessment MMSE scale Pfeiffer and Yesavage psychic valuation was used. Then a diagnosis with the NANDA taxonomy was developed. The data were processed and analyzed in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Version 21 SPS, and format PLACE NANDA, NOC-NIC. Results: 34.2% belongs to ages between 86 and 95 years, this 18.4% men and 15.8% women, 31.6% are aged 66 to 75 years, this the 13.2% men and 18.4% women, sex is a total of 60.5% women and 39.5% men. The Katz index indicates that 65.8% do their core activities, so they are independent. The modified Tinetti scale indicates that 39,5% of older adults has a good performance in terms of balance and gait resulting in a low risk of falling. The scale of Pfeiffer and cognitive test (MMSE) shows that 76.3% have cognitive deficits. The scale of Yesavage depression indicates that 42,1% have depression. The results helped to develop nursing diagnosis taxonomy NANDA NIC-NOC include: impaired ambulation, physical mobility and memory, of self-care: feeding, elimination and hygiene. Conclusions. Functional and psychological impairment was determined in older adults allowing developing nursing diagnoses with the NANDA taxonomy - NOC - NIC Keywords.     Body and sexual objectification: perceptions in the shuar indigenous community

    Objective: To present to the scientific community the voices of the Shuar people, their perceptions about bodies and sexual objectification caused by the influence of the Western World in the context of colonization and globalization. Material and Method: The interpretative research paradigm was used, with a qualitative approach, through in-depth interviews and a focus group. The sample was selected by convenience; 24 people participated: Shuar men and women from the Morona Canton in Ecuador, between the ages of 14 and 60, who had previously signed informed consents. The informants’ responses were recorded, transcribed, processed in Atlas.ti software, and analyzed by the researchers. Results: The Shuar people who participated in the research perceive that their community has been absorbed by the logic of the Western World; they acknowledge the globalized capitalist ideology of consumption and materialism; they perceive that the Shuar female bodies, but also the male ones, have been objectified; that the juvenile mindset focuses more on eroticism and less in biological aspects; they also believe that sexual behaviors have been modified by the influence of pornography, evidenced by the existence of exotic pornography; they believe that prostitution is abundant in the Shuar ethnic group because it offers an economic opportunity and is mostly voluntary; a social awareness of resistance emerges from community leaders and the adult generation. Conclusions: The main results showed a new conceptualization of the body; sexual objectification was manifested by prostitution and pornography

    Características de 15 niños y niñas con retraso del desarrollo psicomotor con discapacidad que asisten a los centros especiales del área urbana del cantón Cuenca: Universidad de Cuenca, Cuenca 2009

    A descriptive study has been carry out where it was determined the characteristics of 0 to 5 years old children with delay of the psychomotor development with disability, among 15 children, boys and girls that attend two urban fiscal and private centers in Cuenca from January to June of the year 2009, establishing relationship with the following characteristics: malnutrition, abnormal cephalic perimeter, type of family, parents migration and type of caretaker. The test used for the evaluation of development were: the Brunet Lezine for the confirmation of the Psychomotor Development delay, the EVE guides for younger than 3 years and the BVD for ages from 3 to 5 years, to know if they fulfill the approaches of dependence. The results found were the following: 6.7% of boys and girls didn't present disability in spite of being in a special center and that same percentage presented migration of their father and the mother. in the gender the difference in percentage is minimal. The age has a medium of 30.2meses. 46.7% of the boys and girls showed under weight. 40% of the boys and girls showed low size. 13.3% showed global malnutrition; 6.7% showed microcefalia. the 86.7% were taken care by their mother, while the 13.3% were taken care by a different person. The variables in study demonstrate the situation of the studied children, many of them were presented in situation of social risk.     Comunidad, familia y tecnologías de la comunicación e información (TIC) relacionados a los comportamientos sexuales y formas de prevención de VIH/SIDA en adultos Shuar del cantón Morona – Morona Santiago 2019

    BACKGROUND: The customs and traditions of indigenous communities have changed with the passage of globalization; implementing new lifestyles, bringing positive or negative consequences in different areas of life. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the influence of community, family and information and communication technologies (ICTs) on sexual behaviours and forms of HIV/AIDS prevention in Shuar adults in Canton Morona - Morona Santiago 2019 METHODS: Qualitative phenomenological study whose sample was made up of 15 Shuar adults between the ages of 19 and 60, selected for convenience in the Morona canton of the province of Morona Santiago. n-depth interviews and a focus group were conducted. The data was recorded, transcribed using the Microsoft Word program and processed in the Atlas ti software. RESULTS: Through the process of acculturation and the introduction of ICTs, the influence on sexual behaviors and notions has been evident in the Shuar community, situation that caused discomfort; The presence of prostitution, pornography and other sexual practices was evidenced, which are considered outside traditional values. The prevention of HIV / AIDS transmission was limited, the condom is known, but its use is not frequent, while the requirement of protection between sexual partners was minimal. CONCLUSIONS: Sexual behaviors and forms of prevention in the Shuar community are influenced by new conceptions of sexuality following the immersion of the western world by colonization and globalization.

    Conocimientos creencias, actitudes y prácticas sexuales vinculadas con el VIH/SIDA, en Uyuntza, Morona Santiago 2017

    BACKGROUND: According to UNAIDS statistics and the projections of the international organization on the increase of HIV / AIDS, estimated that in Ecuador more than 29,000 people who were HIV carriers at the end of 2015 and between 1000 and 3000 died of AIDS. (1) OBJECTIVE: To analyze the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices related to HIV / AIDS, in the Uyuntza Community. Morona Santiago 2017. METHODOLOGY: Phenomenological qualitative study the study population was the members of the Uyuntza Juaruar community, the sample was chosen 7 mixed participants between 18 and 50 years of age, men and women with active sexual life, a focus group was carried out applying a semi-structured survey, the data was recorded, transcribed in Word and then processed in the Atlas-Ti software. RESULTS The age of initiation of sexual relations is early, thirteen years. Poverty, low economic and academic level in the community are limiting to acquire knowledge. The source from which information is acquired is the talks in the Health sub-centers, which, according to the residents, are insufficient in terms of time and quality. Prostitution is a permanent source of possible HIV / AIDS infection. The men in the study have more "more than forty" sexual partners. Women do not use condoms in their sexual relationships and feel more vulnerable due to possible infidelities of their partners

    Conocimientos y actitudes que poseen los estudiantes de enfermería sobre eutanasia en pacientes terminales. Cuenca 2017

    Background: The application of euthanasia in recent years has become controversial internationally. The objective of this analysis is to identify the knowledge and attitudes that Nursing students have about euthanasia in terminal patients. Methodology: quantitative, observational, descriptive cross-sectional study, 191 students were evaluated; as a technique, the survey was used in relation to knowledge and attitudes and as a tool a form prepared by the authors; a pilot test was carried out. The analysis of the information was made through the SPSS program version 15 for Windows. Results: 72.3% of the students reported agreeing with euthanasia, 94.8% reported not having witnessed it, 80.1% considered that this practice is a feasible method to relieve the pain of a terminal patient, the 57.6% report that ending a person's life is a sin, the female sex was associated with the acceptance of euthanasia, and the cycle where the students were with the question of whether they considered euthanasia a sin. 32.5% strongly disagree that euthanasia is a homicide, while the largest proportion was undecided when questioned as a sin, an ethical act and a dignified death, 12.6% is in agreement with Do not practice euthanasia under any circumstances. Use of results: the results obtained in the present study will serve as a scientific basis to begin making decisions regarding the practice of euthanasia, in the same way it is a description of the situation of the nursing staff and their perception with respect to it, serving as a starting point to raise awareness of this topic that is usually reserved.

    Conocimientos y creencias sobre la Vasectomía en usuarios consulta externa, Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, 2017

    Background: contraception is usually carried out by the couple, due to the sociocultural characteristics of the country, this reality has been increasing, with the simple fact of the greater demand for planning methods; according to the BBC and a UN World Report the ratio of vasectomy / tubectomy in developed countries is 5.3% to 8.4% and in developing countries it is 1.9% to 20.6% (1). General objective: To determine the knowledge and beliefs about vasectomy in external consultation users, "Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso" Cuenca, 2017 Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional study was carried out at the outpatient clinic of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, with a sample of 116 male patients between 18 and 50 years of age; to whom a modified Mexican questionnaire was applied, the information collected was tabulated and processed in the statistical package SPSS version 23, and the results were finally presented in tables and graphs of frequency. Results: Patients had a mean age of 30 ± 8 years, single (37.9%), with a secondary education (44.8%), the Catholic religion was the most prevalent (77.6%) and most has a son; 42.2% mentions the right time to use a condom, and opinions are divided over the purpose of sperm; 33.6% of patients believe that the vasectomy generates side effects and that it can affect in some way their sexual condition, thus 29.3% of patients believe to be impotent; 25% think that this procedure can affect erection, ejaculation and orgasm; the majority point out that the age to perform the vasectomy is when the couple has parity satisfied (38.8%). Conclusions: 77.6% of patients have basic knowledge about vasectomy, 33.6% of patients believe that vasectomy generates side effects and that may affect their sexual condition in some way

    Conocimientos y prácticas sobre VIH-SIDA en estudiantes: Unidad Educativa César Dávila Andrade. Cuenca, 2017

    Background: Knowledge on HIV/AIDS infection plays an important role in the promotion of health and prevention of disease; the early initiation of sexual activity, not sustained use of condom use, number of sexual partners (1), and of the ignorance about the disease make Ecuador has a prevalence of 3.9%. (2) Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and practices about HIV/AIDS among students in the educational unit César Dávila Andrade. Basin, 2017. Methodology: A descriptive study, information was collected directly from students of the Educational Unit César Dávila Andrade using a data collection form which included: demographics, school children, marital status, residence, knowledge about HIV/AIDS, attitudes and beliefs. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 15. Results: The 75.26% of the students have 17 years and a predominance of females (51.08%); 40.86% is in the third year, the Marital status Single (96.77%) and frequent urban residence (88.71%); 72.04% knows about the disease but the 70.96% is not able to establish the difference between HIV and AIDS, sex (47.84%) and blood transfusions (47.7%) are considered the most common infection; prevention campaigns (55.01%) and the educational institution (52.08%) provide information; the first sexual relationship occurred without the protection of 14-16 years with her boyfriend, currently 47.31% has had more than three sexual partners and the 72.04 does not use protection. Conclusions: Students have poor knowledge about the disease it is necessary to implement educational programs on Sexual and Reproductive Health in the educational center to help responsible sexual behavior

    Background: Snakebites are a public health problem, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, it occurs due because there is a high quantity of hidden snakes in the bushes; and when the farmers go to their daily work are prone to a bite . Objective: The purpose of this investigation is to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices on snake bite in Patuca - Morona Santiago, 2014. Methodology: This is a descriptive study that seeks to identify and describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of snake bite in Patuca - Morona Santiago, 2014. The population for this research was 1726 inhabitants and a sample was obtained through by simple random method. The final sample was constituted by 314 people. The technique used was a direct observation, interview and survey. The instrument was a form that was elaborated by the authors its pretend to collect knowledge, attitudes and practices they have about the snake bite. The data was processed in IBM SPSS version 19, Excel, Word and presented in tables and graphs after statistical analysis programs. Results: According to this study we have that the 88.85% of the investigated population knows the snake "X" Bothrops. Distinguish a poisonous snake by the red color; the 91.72% ; identify poisonous snake bite by the tread of the fangs 69.75%; by pain the 35.35% and edema pain 23.25%, handle it with the use of avocado pit one drink mixed with 42.36%; after reported the case to the health personnel for proper treatment Conclusions: This research work demonstrates that the most popular snake in the area is the snake Bothrops "X", it is considered poisonous, causing the largest number of snakebites, a poisonous snake is identified by the red color, head shape padlock or arrow, by their small and bulging eyes, fangs and needle-shaped; people use home remedies to treat a bite, as well as hydrocarbons, tourniquet, suction and elevation of the affected limb.     Conocimientos, creencias, actitudes y prácticas sexuales vinculadas con el VIH/SIDA, en la comunidad San Luis de Inimkis. Morona Santiago 2017

    BACKGROUND: The prevalence of HIV / AIDS and the interest of people harmed by this pathology have increased in recent times, however there is a great gap in terms of knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices in communities of indigenous Shuar nationalities of Ecuador, so it is necessary to deepen studies related to this topic. Worldwide, in 2013, an estimated 35 million people were infected, 2.1 million new cases and 1.5 million deaths due to AIDS-related diseases. (1) For the indigenous people of the Amazonian communities, HIV is an outside disease that the mestizos, 'gringos', have led. They are in the 5th place of deaths due to HIV with 1.06% (2) GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Analyze knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices related to HIV / AIDS, in the San Luis de Inimkis community, Morona Santiago 2017. METHODOLOGY: Post-positivist qualitative phenomenological study. The sample was non-probabilistic of intentional type, integrated by 7 adolescents between 12 and 17 years old, men and women with active sexual life who go to the Health Center of the MSP of the Parroquia Sevilla Don Bosco. The research was carried out by means of a focus group in which an interview was applied, the data were recorded, transcribed in Word as primary documents and then processed in the Atlas-Ti software. RESULTS: The adolescents studied were between 12 and 17 years old, 5 men and 2 women, Shuar ethnic group, single people with an active sexual life, students. The beginning of the sexual activity was at 16 years, experienced the pleasurable sexual debut and love relationships of the couple. There is insufficient knowledge about HIV / AIDS and the risks of contagion of STI diseases, attitudes and sexual practice is vulnerable to risk

Finally, the work of Gómez, A. is taken as a reference with the objective of determining the knowledge, attitudes and practices in relation to sexuality that adolescents of the fifth year of secondary education have at the Educational Technical Institution of Peru BIRF "Republic of Ecuador" (2). OBJECTIVE: To analyze the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices linked to HIV / AIDS, at the Sagrado Corazón of Morona Santiago Community 2017. METHODOLOGICAL USE: The design of the research is qualitative post positivist phenomenological given that it will be used as a technique for the collection of information, the semi-structured interview, and as an instrument the interview guide, which will be applied to a sample taken at convenience composed of 5 adolescents with ages between 12 and 17 years old, with an active sexual life of the Shuar ethnic group. The information obtained will be transcribed into text emphasizing the most relevant, Microsoft Word program will be used, making analysis and classifications, links, identification of categories, concepts, propositions and values, with which an analysis and systematization will be carried out with the Atlas-TI software

    Background: This investigation is born from the XV announcement from the Universidad de Cuenca’s Department of Investigation (DICU for their Spanish initials), from the project called Knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices linked with HIV/AIDS at Sevilla Don Bosco Parish; Morona Santiago 2017. AIDS is considered as a public health problem worldwide. This disease has had important consequences to teenagers, (1) with a major prevalence at limited places to preventive services. (2) In Ecuador, it estimates a strong tendency of new cases of HIV, registering 3966 cases in 2010, a rate of incidence of 27.7 (3) in relation with Western Ecuadorian ethnic groups, the increase in the prevalence of women and men with HIV/AIDS could be related due to the cultural sexual behavior, the lack of information and a limited knowledge of the contagion’s severity, the mortality raise and AIDS’s cost. Objective: To analyze the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and sexual practices linked with HIV/AIDS in Sevilla Don Bosco. Methodology: Qualitative post-positivist qualitative study whose population study are members from Shuar ethnicity (tambien puedes poner community). The sample will be for convenience: 7 teens (men and women) between 12 and 17 years with active sexual life who come to Sevilla Don Bosco Health Center Parish. It will realize a focus group with previous consent of their teen’s parents involved. The information will be recorded, rewritten in Word document, and then, processed with Atlas-Ti software according to the proposed categories: beliefs, practices and attitudes. Results: The results obtained showed that of the total of participants, with respect to their knowledge, attitudes and sexual practices, they agree that they may be vulnerable to contagion, their first sexual relationship was at an early age, this was given out of love, they claim to keep only one partner and They reflect on the importance of condom use

    General background: The majority of indigenous people maintain their ancestral ethnic identity, language, and cultural values. Traditional healing systems persist over time, maintaining healing strategies through knowledge that last for generations. Objective: To identify the customs and traditions narrated about health among the elderly in the Quilloac community, belonging to the province of Cañar, 2014 Material and method: The research is an ethnographic, ethnohistorical and narrative. It was worked with a focus group of 15 adults over 65 years old of the Quilloac community; depth interviews and surveys were used as a procedural. A collection of questions developed by the authors on the sociocultural categories, customs and traditional practices were used as a tool. The information collected helped us build concepts and definitions that enriched our knowledge and traditions of the redeemed community. Results: This research helped us identify the customs and traditions practiced in health older adults; most of the studied population remains to be used infusions of herbs to heal the diseases.     Cuerpo y cosificación sexual: percepciones en la comunidad indígena Shuar

    Objective: To present to the scientific community the voices of the Shuar people, their perceptions about bodies and sexual objectification caused by the influence of the Western World in the context of colonization and globalization. Material and Method: The interpretative research paradigm was used, with a qualitative approach, through in-depth interviews and a focus group. The sample was selected by convenience; 24 people participated: Shuar men and women from the Morona Canton in Ecuador, between the ages of 14 and 60, who had previously signed informed consents. The informants’ responses were recorded, transcribed, processed in Atlas.ti software, and analyzed by the researchers. Results: The Shuar people who participated in the research perceive that their community has been absorbed by the logic of the Western World; they acknowledge the globalized capitalist ideology of consumption and materialism; they perceive that the Shuar female bodies, but also the male ones, have been objectified; that the juvenile mindset focuses more on eroticism and less in biological aspects; they also believe that sexual behaviors have been modified by the influence of pornography, evidenced by the existence of exotic pornography; they believe that prostitution is abundant in the Shuar ethnic group because it offers an economic opportunity and is mostly voluntary; a social awareness of resistance emerges from community leaders and the adult generation. Conclusions: The main results showed a new conceptualization of the body; sexual objectification was manifested by prostitution and pornography.

    Disfuncionalidad familiar y su relación con la depresión en los adolescentes del ciclo diversificado en la Unidad Educativa Herlinda Toral. Cuenca 2014

    Background: Family dysfunction influences the presence of depression in adolescence. Depression in adolescence is more common in patients from dysfunctional families than in those with clear family boundaries, why this research is focused on finding statistics to determine its relationship with depression in adolescents, this also being apathology very common in our environment and that is affecting the population. Objective: The study focuses on the relationship between family dysfunction and depression in adolescents was conducted in a sample of 200 adolescents, aged 14 to 18 years, of both sexes attending High School HerlindaToral Determine the family dysfunction and its relationship to depression in adolescent’s diversified Herlinda Toral Education Unit cycle. Cuenca 2014 Materials and methods: The following research is descriptive quantitative type. We worked with a finite universe with a sampling frame for selection, as therefore the technique of individual interview was used by means of the following instruments, forms, family Apgar and Hamilton test data were processed through SPSS 15.0 and Excel 2010, which were processed in simple tables analyzed with descriptive statistics. Expected Results: It was found that in adolescents who participated in the study 48.5% present relationship between family dysfunction and depression, 50% of adolescents have family dysfunction between the ages of 14 -16 years, 65.5 % female presented family dysfunction, 43.5% among 14-16 years had depression and 60% female present depression in the Educational Unit "Herlinda Toral".
