    Prevalencia del consumo de alcohol y factores de riesgo en estudiantes de la escuela de medicina de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2010

    Objective: To determine the prevalence of alcohol consumption and their association with risk factors in students of The Medical Sciences Faculty of Cuenca´s University. Method and Materials: Prevalence study, September 2009 through July 2010. 711 students were interviewed, for data collecting we used a questionnaire previously validated. The statistical analysis was carried out with the SPSS 15.00 program, version Evaluation. Results: 82.4 % consumes alcohol, 46.9 % due to entertainment and the 30.9% for fun. The 44% consumes alcohol once a week. Participants from Azuay 69.5 %. The 53.4 % belongs to first and second course. The average age is between 21 and 25 years old. The 86.5 % does not have migrant parents. Conclusion: The vulnerable students are between 21 and 25 years old, they consume alcohol for entertainment, very few of them do it for social or family problems, the consumer don´t accept their consumption. The parents´ migration is not a significant problem in this case, so it represents the 13.5 %, 31.1 % has a consumption model inside their family.
