    Conocimientos sobre la neumonía y la vacuna del neumococo en los adultos mayores del Hospital José Felix Valdiviezo del Cantón Santa Isabel, Cuenca, Marzo-Septiembre 2015.

    BACKGROUND: Acording to OMS, pneumonia constitutes a public healt problem, with a hight financial cost, inspide that has powerful antibiotics, diagnostic methods more accurate for the treatment, it constitutes one of the most important causes of mortality all over world; specially on vulnerable groups like childrens and older adults, could be prevent through a good feeding, the control of environmental factors and the immunization through the pneumococcal vaccine. The combination of this strategies could reduce in all the mortality specialy on old adults groups. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the knowledge that old adults has about the pneumonia and the pneumococcal vaccine in the Hospital “José Felix Valdivieso” located in “Cantón Santa Isabel”, Cuenca, march-september 2015. METHODOLOGY: It has been made a tranversal descriptive study; where it works with a old adults poblation that come to the doctor external consultation to a normal control on the hospital “Jose Felix Valdivieso” located in “Cantón Santa Isabel”. For the survey data it’s used the enterview technique with a poll support, previously validated, for a three monts lapse (April, May and June), couting with a sample of One hundred and thirty (130) old adults who signed their volunteer participation consent in the investigation. The program was typed in the program “Microsoft Word”, tabulation was made in the programs Excel, SPSS 20, the information are present on stalemates that describe variables of studies and finally analizated with descriptive statistics. USE OF RESULTS: Results evidence that predominance the female population with 64,6%while the 35,4% belongs to male sex. The 92,3% of old adults respondents indicate correctly that the pneumonia is a lung inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection, was identified an important percentage of old adults that have positive knowledge about the vaccines indicating that are important 98.5%, the 70% of old adults indicate that the vaccines are use for prevent disease, the 18,5% indicates that the age of administrations is since 65 years; the 5,4% says that the vaccine lasts five years in the body; the 72,3% of the old adults expressed that they had never been vaccinated against the pneumonia, the 60,8% that the old adults hasn’t been vaccinated for the biological ignorance. CONCLUTION: As conclution we can say that exist little promotion of the Pneumococcal Vaccine to the community, influencing as principal factor education, which indicates that the level of knowledge in old adults is deficient and this makes that it doesn’t has enough importance for the health.
