    THE ROLE OF RESEARCH IN CUENCA PRESSis the study of the common journalisticpractices regarding the use of research techniques and management sources, having as the object of analysis El Tiempo and El Mercurio newspapers during the month of May 2014. The first chapter describes the origins and significance of investigative journalism, the most representative cases of research conducted in Ecuador, and the application of techniques and sources for its implementation. Chapter two provides the analysis of the content which was done for one month at the two print media chosen as the object of study, as well as the interviews and surveys with editors, reporters, and investigative journalists at a country level. Chapter three explains the current relationship between journalism and the Organic Law of Communication. Finally, in chapter four, conclusions and recommendations on ethics and professional training for journalists are demonstrated while the results of the research are presented.
