    Frecuencia y letalidad de la neumonía en el área de medicina interna del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca.2019

    SUMMARY: Pneumonia, according to the World Health Organization, is an acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs, it can be caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi, affecting all population groups. In the presence of symptoms such as cough, chills, shortness of breath, a picture of pneumonia is suspected. [1] The Pneumology service at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital is one of the most complete today, it has modern equipment that performs effective diagnoses and specific treatments. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the Frequency and Lethality of Pneumonia in the Internal Medicine Area of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca Hospital. 2019. METHODOLOGY: A descriptive study was carried out; on the frequency and lethality of pneumonia in the Internal Medicine area of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in the period from June to December 2019; with 134 medical records that presented a diagnosis of pneumonia and risk of fatality. Statistical analysis was performed with EPI 2004 v.3.22 and Excel software; the results are presented with frequency, percentages, mean and SD. RESULTS: Of 134 medical records related to pneumonia diagnoses, 58.2% are older adults; 50.74% corresponds to the male sex. The clinical manifestations such as bronchial rales and tachypnea had a frequency of 75.3% and 67.9% respectively. 20.14% of patients died. The drugs most used in patients were Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid with 20.8%; followed by the association Amoxicillin + clavulanic acid and Clarithromycin with 18.6%. CONCLUSIONS: Through data collection, the frequency and lethality of Pneumonia was determined.
