Efecto de la progesterona aplicada en dos momentos del metaestro sobre el tamaño del embrión tamaño y función del cuerpo lúteo CL en ovejas
(2016) Peñaloza Zumba, Pablo Patricio; Romero Tacuri, Jonathan Leonardo; Alberio Arce, Ricardo Horacio
The effect of exogenous progesterone was evaluated applied in two moments of early metaestrus on embryo size and size and function of the corpus luteum in 21 sheeps Corriedale breed in Irquís Farm of the University of Cuenca in a block design was valued at random. The means were compared with Tukey test with significance level of 0.05. The treatments performed were: T1) Control; T2) application of P4 between 2 to 4 days after the service; T3) application of P4 between days 3 to 5 after the service. The study duration was 60 days. Increased serum levels of progesterone in blood evidence a significant difference (P˂0.05) between treatments with average values 8.20; 2.0; 13.6 ng/ml for T1, T2, T3 respectively treatments. There were no significant differences between treatments for the size and function of the corpus luteum. The results indicate that the application of P4 in the early stage of metaestrus not affect the size and function of the corpus luteum, but significantly increases the levels of P4 at that stage

Evaluación cuali-cuantitativa de espermatozoides de la cola del epedídimo de cuyes cavia porcellus criollos y mejorados en dos edades reproductivas

EPIDÍDIMO. ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of sperm extracted from the caudal epididymis of creole guinea pigs and improved in two reproductive ages. Was conducted at the farm Irquis in the Cuenca´s University in 20 breeding male guinea pigs identified by their phenotypic characteristics and arranged in four groups: 5 young native (NY), 5 adult native (NA), 5 youth improved (YI), and 5 adults improved (AI). The animals were hemi castrated and epididymis were dissected in their tail on a petri dish. Sperm recovered by Swim up, diluted in 1 ml medium (18% raffinose and 3% skim milk), processed by Triladyl®, cooled to 5 °C/1 hour, and equilibration time by 0, 2, 24, 48, 96, 192, and 360 hs for analysis of sperm viability. Only frozen sperm of 2 hs of equilibration time in vapors liquid nitrogen. A DCA (2x2) was used: phenotype and age, and ANOVA test was used to significance. Interaction (P <0.05) between factors was obtained, obtaining higher values in Improves, at 0 hs in C and Total abnormalities tail (AaT), at 24hs at motility progressive (IMP), and at 48hs at vitality (V). In total abnormalities (AT) only found differences (P <0.05) at 0 hs (MJ: 26.3; CJ: 32.6; MA: 36.2; CA: 38.5%); and AaT differences (P <0.05) at 0 hs (:; 9.5; CA: 11.5; MA: CJ 4.6 MJ 16.4%) was found, and 48 hs (CA 5.7; CJ: 7.3; MJ: 16.0; MA: 18.1%). In membrane integrity (HOS-Test) was obtained (P <0.05) differences at 2 hs (MJ: 20.0; MA 13.1, CA 10.7; CJ: 9.0%) and 96 hs (CA: 25.4; CJ: 15.3; MJ: 9,7; MA: 8.8%). In the analysis of freezability not sperm survival was obtained in any treatments. In conclusion, the quantity and quality epididymal sperm of guinea pigs identified according to their phenotype varies with age; but could not check their variation in freezability to be quite susceptible to cryopreservation.

Evaluación de la calidad espermática de reproductores bovinos mediante el uso de sistemas de evaluación seminal convencional y sistema CASA (análisis seminal asistido por computadora) y su respuesta con la fertilidad por inseminación artificial
(2017) Veloz Veloz, Dina Maricela; Alberio Arce, Ricardo Horacio
The objective of this study was to compare the results of some parameters of seminal quality of bulls obtained by the Conventional method and also by the computerized CASA system, other objective was to determinate if there is any difference in seminal quality between JE, HO and BS bulls. Semen samples were collected from 5 bulls: Individual motility (%), Mass motility (1-5), Neubauer chamber concentration (106 sptz/ml) and individual post-freezing motility (%). The same samples were by CASA method, which variables are: Total motility (%), Progressive motility (%), concentration (106 sptz/ml) and total post-freezing motility (%). Results obtained by each breed of bulls in these parameters were compared using a Duncan multiple range test to assess statistical differences. The result was that Jersey bull’s semen had the higher counts for most the variables compared with the other two. The entire population of results by the Conventional method was also compared against the entire population of results by CASA, in those parameters that are equivalent between the two methods: motility (individual vs total), concentration (Neubabuer vs CASA) and post-freezing motility. This comparison was performed with a Student test that proved there were differences between the two methods in all the studied parameters. In the case of motility, the conventional method showed an average 79% against of the CASA system. In concentration the conventional method presented a lower result than CASA. Finally about the post-freezing motility the conventional method had the highest result against of CASA. The conclusion was that the numeric results of spermatic quality are different depending on which method is used. Regarding the live evaluation that the highest percentage of fertility was obtained the jersey breed
