Item Supervivencia de dientes fisurados sometidos a tratamiento endodóntico previo: revisión narrativa de la literatura(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-15) Maldonado Alulima, Nayeli Pauleth; Aguirre Valle, Sugey Anaela; Espinosa Vásquez, Ximena ElizabethThe management of cracked teeth represents a challenge in the practice of General Dentistry. Several studies have evaluated the effectiveness of endodontic treatment in preserving teeth with cracks or fractures. While such treatment may yield favorable results, the presence of cracks remains a significant risk factor for tooth loss. Objectives: Conduct a literature review to determine the survival rate of cracked teeth that have received endodontic treatment. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane databases, covering the period from January 2015 to November 2024. Controlled MeSH and DeCS terms were used, along with predefined eligibility criteria. As a result, 119 academic articles were identified, of which 14 were selected that met the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Endodontically treated cracked teeth can remain functional and be preserved for a clinically acceptable period. The extent of the crack was the primary determining factor in choosing the treatment. Likewise, it was identified that the presence of a periodontal pocket of 6 mm or more constitutes a critical factor in the decision to either preserve or extract the fractured tooth, which directly impacts its survival. Conclusion: Cracked teeth can retain their functionality in the long term after endodontic treatment, provided that prognostic factors are adequately evaluated, and an appropriate therapeutic approach is applied.
