A proper understanding of the probable differences in the motor coordination of children from urban and rural areas can contribute to the adoption of methodological strategies by PE teachers and experts in the field of sports. The objective of this research is to determine, by means of a comparative analysis, the differences in the levels of coordination in third grade students of General Basic Education belonging to the "Federico Proaño" and "Alfonso María Borrero" Educational Institutions, located in the urban and rural areas of Cuenca. The study is of a comparative descriptive type, with a non-experimental design, whose sample consists of 69 schoolchildren, who attend the above mentioned schools, their ages range between 7 and 8 years old. The 3JS Test Battery was used as an instrument to evaluate the level of coordination, using control sheets for the respective data collection. To establish differences in the coordination variable, the Mann-Whitney U test was used, since it indicates whether there is disparity or equality in the sample mean of two independent groups. With a significance level of p= 0.05, a p-value of 0.003 < 0.05 was determined, concluding that there are significant differences in the levels of coordination between the educational institutions "Federico Proaño" and "Alfonso María Borrero”. In other words, the results show that students in urban areas have better levels of coordination in relation to students in rural areas.
