Percepciones sobre asertividad sexual en lesbianas adultas emergentes de la ciudad de Cuenca. Periodo 2020
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020-02-08) Ávila Martínez, María Cristina; Saquisilí González, Belén Estefanía; López Alvarado, Silvia Lucía
Sexual Assertiveness is a substantial construct for human sexuality due to it allows the correct communication between the members of a couple. Its importance is originated in the fact that as an outcome of Sexual Assertiveness the individual can adopt a healthy sexual behavior, without coercion and victimization. Studies on sexuality and Sexual Assertiveness have focused mainly on the heterosexual population, leaving a knowledge gap on the sexual behavior of same-sex couples. Thus, the lesbian population is invisible in Cuenca's society in regard to their sexual life. This research aimed to understand the perspectives that lesbians have on Sexual Assertiveness. A qualitative approach study was carried out, using an exploratory scope and with a phenomenological design. As a tool, we decided to work with semi-structured interviews through virtual platforms. Seven emerging adult lesbians, whose ages ranged from 18 to 29 years, participated in this research. The results of the Thematic Analysis are presented in 15 categories. It is evident that lesbians perceive communication in couple relationships as fluid, which is based on trust between the partners. Particular elements were found about how lesbian couples carry out Sexual Assertiveness from its conceptual components. The results also highlight the gender stereotypes and the invisibility of their sexuality to which lesbians are subjected. It can be said then, that lesbians perceive certain facilities for the exercise of their Sexual Assertiveness despite the cultural limitations existing in the environment in which they operate, which traditionally affect women.
