Item Insuficiencia cardiaca secundaria a hipocalcemia asociada a hipoparatiroidismo: reporte de un caso(2019) Orellana Cobos, Danilo FernandoHeart failure due to hypocalcemia is a strange presentation of metabolic heart disease; it is reversible in most cases, and secondary to endocrinal alterations that cause the persistent decrease in serum calcium, such as hypoparathyroidism. A case of a 23-year-old woman who was diagnosed with severe heart failure is presented. During her hospitalization, there was evidence of symptoms associated with hypocalcemia, secondary to hypoparathyroidism, so the patient was treated with replacement of calcium immediately. To prevent the risk of sudden death, by the persistent prolongation of the Q-T interval, an implantable cardiac defibrillator was placed; however, after 6 months of treatment, despite oral calcium supplementation, there was no improvement in the ejection fraction, determining an uncertain prognosis of the disease.Item Prevalencia de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y factores asociados en los pacientes mayores de 40 años, Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca 2013(Universidad de Cuenca, 2014-11-11) Álvarez Palacios, Franklin Santiago; Rea Hermida, Danilo Fernando; Vintimilla Maldonado, Jaime RosendoObjetive Determine the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the factors associated in patients older than 40 years admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital of Cuenca between June and November 2013. Methodology A cross-sectional study was performed on a representative, randomized sample. The sample was calculated based on the 95% confidence level, 4% inference error and 19% smoking prevalence. Data were collected directly and analyzed in the software Epi Info 7. Results The mean age was 63.8 years, women 55.34%. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes was 33.98%, 39.47% in women and 38.29% in ≥ 65 years. The association between type 2 diabetes with sedentary provided RP: 2.48 p <0.05, with mixed dyslipidemia RP: 2.34 p <0.05, with family history of diabetes RP: 2.07 p <0.05, with central obesity RP: 1.80 p <0.05, with hypertriglyceridemia RP 1.65 p <0.05, with hypercholesterolemia p <0.05 with hypertension OR: 1.61 p <0.05, with diabetic dyslipidemia RP: 1.59 p <0.05, with overweight and obese RP: 1.40 p <0.05, with binge drinking RP: 0.93 p = 0.63, with smoking RP:0.90 p = 0.61 and with hazardous alcohol consumption RP: 0.72 p = 0.29.
