Higher Education has not explored the field of business architecture as a tool for academic and operational management. They have only been perfecting the business model they currently have based on strategic lines. For the approach of a reference model adaptable to the business layer, the business problem was initially identified to adopt an architectural structure. Also, based on the TOGAF architectural development method, a scheme of artifacts and deliverables was made according to the phases defined for the proposed model, establishing inputs and outputs that generate relevant results related to the key processes. In order to satisfactorily manage the requirements, efforts are made to analyze the necessary capacities, to optimize the resources with their focus on the business vision, in such a way that they lead to the success of an institution through the alignment of the business objectives with IT strategy. Finally, on the results obtained through the development of this thesis work, a gap analysis was carried out, including a roadmap with short and long term planning to give continuity to the implementation of the business architecture to support the operational management of the UTPL application case.
