Item Prevalencia de hipertensión arterial y factores asociados en adultos, Centro de Salud N° 1 del Cantón Cañar, 2014(2015) Abad Alemán, Nataly María; Araujo Flores, Verónica Gabriela; García Valdez, Isabel Susana; Ortega Díaz, Carlos Ismael; Vintimilla Maldonado, Jaime RosendoBackground Globally, one in four adults has hypertension. It is responsible for half of all deaths from heart attacks and heart disease condition. Target To determine the prevalence of hypertension and associated factors in adults between 40 and 65 years old who consulted at the Center for Health No.1 Canton Canar during January to December 2013. Method and Materials A cross-sectional study was conducted with a random sample of 140 patients. The sample size was calculated on the basis of 10% prevalence of diabetes mellitus type 2 (factor association lower prevalence), 95% confidence level and 5% error of inference. Patients were identified from medical records from January to December 2013, and entered the study at random. Data were obtained by interview and direct observation and analyzed with the help of SPSS version 15 software. Results The median age was 51 years. 68.6% were women, 71.4% married, mixed race ethnicity 95.7% and 74.3% were economically active population. The prevalence of hypertension was 48.6% (95% CI 40.3-56.9), no statistical association with exposure factors studied (overweight, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking) was found. Conclusions The prevalence of hypertension was 48.6% and no statistical association with the studied factors associated.
