| Abstract: | Unemployment can occur for some reasons. One is due to increases in the real minimum wage in the labor market, mainly affecting people with equal incomes and below it. Thus, the group of people with low incomes are young.
To determine the relationship, we have built a competitive econometric model, which has been running the following regression: unemployment rate according to the real minimum wage for the whole population between 15 and 24. The methodology is the same for the other groups of the economically active population.
Taking all the surveys of 2012 on employment, unemployment and underemployment conducted by INEC, the results of this study indicate that increases in real wages if it affects the unemployment rate in a direct way, the effect is particularly acute in young people, and in this group mentioned, the greatest effect is young without a tertiary degree or another superior, the other hand, for young people with a certain degree of realism wage changes is not a very important explanation of unemployment.
In the case of adults, changes in real wages is not so much as in other population groups. The last group of older adults we came to the conclusion that the minimum wage increases are not cause to be unemployed. |
| Description: | El desempleo puede darse por varios motivos. Una de ellas es por los incrementos del salario mínimo real en el mercado laboral, afectando principalmente a las personas que tienen ingresos iguales e inferiores a éste. De esta forma, el grupo de personas con ingresos bajos son los jóvenes.
Para determinarla relación, se ha construido un modelo econométrico competitivo, en el cual se ha corriendo la siguiente regresión: tasa de desempleo en función del salario mínimo realpara toda la población entre 15 y 24 años. La metodología es la misma para los demás grupos de la población económicamente activa.
Tomando la totalidad de las encuestas del 2012, sobre el empleo, desempleo y subempleo realizado por el INEC, los resultados de este trabajo indican que los incrementos del salario real si afecta a la tasa de desempleo de una manera directa, el efecto se agudiza más en los jóvenes, y, de este grupo mencionado, el efecto mayor lo reciben los jóvenes que no tienen un título de tercer nivel o algún otro superior, por otro lado, para los jóvenes con cierto título los cambios del salario real no es tan importante para explicar su desempleo.
Para el caso de los adultos, las variaciones del salario real no afecta tanto como en los demás grupos de la población. Para el último grupo estudiado el de los adultos mayores se llegó a concluir que los incrementos del salario mínimo no son causa para estar desempleado. |
