| Abstract: | Background: The BISAP score is a simple system which allows the prediction of acute pancreatitis mortality within the 24 hours of hospitalization. The system which englobes clinical variables (laboratory and imagenology tests) was validated in 2008.
Aim: Determine the validity of the BISAP score in the prediction of both the prognosis and severity of acute pancreatitis in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital within august 2009 and july 2010.
Materials and Method: In order to validate the BISAP score, a study was performed with 57 patients with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis at the moment of hospital admission. As a reference test, the Atlanta criteria, associated to the clinic evolution, were used. The data were obtained by direct interview and were analyzed with the SPSS software, and Excel.
Results: Of the analyzed patients, 71.9% were women and 28.1% were men. The median age of the patients was 38 years. The gallstones was the most frequent cause (66.7%). According to the reference test 71.9% of the cases were mild and 28.1% of the cases were severe. According to the BISAP score 77.2% of the cases were mild and 22.8% of the cases were severe. The sensitivity and specificity for the BISAP score was of 75% and 97.56% respectively. The predictive positive value was 92.31% and the predictive negative value was 90.91%.
Conclusions: The BISAP score allows to predict the severity on the acute pancreatitis.

| Description: | Introducción: El score de BISAP es un sistema sencillo, validado en el año 2008, que engloba variables clínicas, de laboratorio e imagenológicas, permitiendo predecir la mortalidad por pancreatitis aguda, dentro de las 24 horas de inicio del cuadro clínico.
Objetivo: Determinar la validez del score de BISAP para predecir la gravedad y el pronóstico de la pancreatitis aguda en pacientes hospitalizados en el Departamento de Medicina Interna del Hospital “Vicente Corral Moscoso”, durante agosto de 2009 a julio de 2010.
Material y Método: Se realizó un estudio para validación del score de BISAP en 57 pacientes con diagnóstico de pancreatitis aguda al ingreso. Se utilizó como prueba de referencia los criterios de Atlanta asociados a la evolución clínica de la enfermedad. Los datos se obtuvieron por entrevista directa y fueron analizados con el software SPSS y en Excel.
Resultados: De los pacientes analizados, el 71.9% fueron de sexo femenino y el 28.1%, de sexo masculino. La mediana de edad fue de 38 años. La litiasis biliar fue la causa más frecuente (66.7%). Según la prueba de referencia, el 71.9% de casos fueron leves y el 28.1%, graves. Según el score de BISAP, el 77.2% de casos fueron leves y el 22.8%, graves. La sensibilidad y especificidad para el score de BISAP fue del 75.00% y del 97.56% respectivamente. El valor predictivo positivo fue del 92.31% y el valor predictivo negativo, del 90.91%.
Conclusiones: El score de BISAP permite predecir la severidad en la pancreatitis aguda.
