Abstract
The use of psychoactive substances in adolescents and young adults worldwide and locally corresponds to a health problem given the increase in statistical figures. Therefore, the present research aims to determine the characteristics and frequencies of alterations in basic and higher cognitive functions in adolescents and young adults who are poly-consumers of psychoactive substances in the Specialized Centers for the Treatment of People with Problematic Alcohol and Other Drug Use - CETAD in the city of Cuenca. A descriptive cross-sectional study design with quantitative method was used. The sociodemographic card and the ASSIST v3.1 and NEUROPSI tests were used in 145 participants. The results indicate prevalence of male dedicated to trades between 16 and 30 years old, single, with high school education, belonging to the urban area. In addition, they do not present alterations in basic and higher cognitive functions such as orientation, attention and concentration, memory (encoding-evocation), language, reading and writing, executive, conceptual and motor functions, indicating a normal performance of cognitive functioning.
Resumen
El consumo de sustancias psicoactivas en adolescentes y adultos jóvenes a nivel mundial y local corresponde a un problema de salud dado el incremento de cifras estadísticas. De mamera que la presente investigación tiene como objetivo determinar las características y frecuencias de las alteraciones de las funciones cognitivas básicas y superiores en adolescentes y adultos jóvenes policonsumidores de sustancias psicoactivas de los Centros Especializados en Tratamiento a Personas con Consumo Problemático de Alcohol y otras drogas – CETAD de la ciudad de Cuenca. Se empleó un diseño de estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con método cuantitativo. Se empleó la ficha sociodemográfica y la prueba ASSIST v3.1 y NEUROPSI en 145 participantes. Los resultados indican prevalencia de hombres dedicados a oficios de 16 a 30 años, solteros, con escolaridad bachillerato, pertenecientes a la zona urbana. Además, no presentan alteraciones de las funciones cognitivas básicas y superiores como orientación, atención y concentración, memoria (codificación-evocación), lenguaje, lectura y escritura, funciones ejecutivas, conceptuales y motoras al indicar un desempeño normal del funcionamiento cognitivo
