Abstract
Identify the relationship between the nutritional status and academic performance on children
in 5th grade of basic education who attend the “Unidad Educativa del Milenio Manuel Garaicoa
de Calderón, the nutritional status is a pretty alterable aspect in today’s society, being
extremely necessary to keep it under control, because the data on overweight and obesity in
recent years are disturbing, reaching malnutrition figures of 23,2% in the population, while
overweight and obesity are having an increase of 35,4% only between the population of 5 –
11 years. Therefore, its urgent to identify how this affects the cognitive state and how this
would mean a decrease in academic performance in both grades and learning, as well as in
the attention and interest in learning of the children. This study is an observational analytical
type, in which data will be taken from the population of 5th grade of children between 8 and 10
years old, anthropometric data such as weight, height, brachial circumference, abdominal
circumference; in addition to academic satisfaction surveys between the months of November
– February and the analysis and interpretation of the data will be carried out between the
months of March to April. After the application of the project, it will be sought to know if there
is a relationship between the nutritional status and the academic performance of the students
of 5th grade of basic education.
Resumen
Identificar la relación entre el Estado Nutricional y el rendimiento académico en niños de 5°
grado de educación básica que asisten a la Unidad Educativa del Milenio Manuela Garaicoa
de Calderón; el estado nutricional es un aspecto bastante alterable en la sociedad, siendo
muy necesario mantener un control del mismo en la población, debido a que los datos de
sobrepeso y obesidad en los últimos años son preocupantes, llegando a registrarse cifras de
desnutrición 23,2% en la población, mientras que el sobrepeso y la obesidad van en aumento
con un 35.4% únicamente de la población de entre 5-11 años. Este estudio es de tipo analítico
observacional, en el que se tomarán datos de la población de niños de 5.º grado de entre 8 a
10 años, se tomarán datos antropométricos como peso, talla, circunferencia braquial,
circunferencia abdominal; además de encuestas de satisfacción académica entre los meses
de noviembre - febrero y se realizará el análisis e interpretación de los datos entre los meses
de marzo a abril. Tras la aplicación del proyecto se buscará conocer si existe relación entre
el estado nutricional y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de 5.º grado de educación
básica.
