| Abstract: | Engagement has its beginnings in the work environment and due to the positive results, its
research has been transferred to the academic context, in which the commitment and
motivation of students with respect to their career of study is analyzed. The general objective
of this research was to describe the levels of engagement presented by third and ninth cycle
students of Sociology at the University of Cuenca according to sociodemographic data in the
academic period September 2023-February 2024, and as specific objectives: 1) to identify the
level of engagement of Sociology students considering the dimensions of vigor, dedication
and absorption; 2) to compare the dimensions of engagement of Sociology students according
to sociodemographic data.
The methodological design was quantitative, non-experimental with descriptive scope, and the
sample consisted of 56 third and ninth cycle students of the Faculty of Sociology. The Utrecht
Work Engagement Student Questionnaire (UWES-S 17) was used to determine the levels of
the dimensions of engagement. The results showed that the levels of the dimensions of
engagement were between very low and low. Also, in the sociodemographic variables: age,
cycle, sex and career choice, low levels predominated. In conclusion, based on the levels
obtained, it was evidenced that Sociology students presented low levels of engagement. |
| Description: | El engagement tiene sus inicios en el ámbito laboral y por los resultados positivos se ha
trasladado su investigación al contexto académico, en el cual, se analiza el compromiso y
motivación de los estudiantes respecto a su carrera de estudio. Esta investigación tuvo como
objetivo general, describir los niveles de engagement que presentan los estudiantes de tercer
y noveno ciclo de la carrera de Sociología de la Universidad de Cuenca según datos
sociodemográficos en el periodo académico septiembre 2023-febrero 2024, y como objetivos
específicos: 1) identificar el nivel de engagement de los estudiantes de Sociología
considerando las dimensiones de vigor, dedicación y absorción; 2) comparar las dimensiones
de engagement de los estudiantes de la carrera de Sociología en función de los datos
sociodemográficos.
El diseño metodológico fue cuantitativo, no experimental con alcance descriptivo, y la muestra
estuvo constituida por 56 estudiantes de tercer y noveno ciclo de la Facultad de Sociología.
Se utilizó el Cuestionario Utrecht Work Engagement Student (UWES-S 17) para determinar
los niveles de las dimensiones de engagement. Los resultados mostraron que los niveles de
las dimensiones del engagement se ubican entre muy bajo y bajo. Así mismo, en las variables
sociodemográficas: edad, ciclo, sexo y opción de carrera predominaron niveles bajos. En
conclusión, a partir de los niveles obtenidos se evidenció que los estudiantes de Sociología
presentaron niveles de engagement bajo. |
