| Abstract: | Adequate adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) suppresses HIV replication, achieving undetectable viral loads in the blood, prevents its spread, prolongs and improves the patient's quality of life. The objective of the study was to evaluate adherence to ART in HIV patients attending the Darío Machuca Palacios Hospital in La Troncal canton from October 2022 to March 2023, being of a descriptive observational type with a population of 80 patients
registered in the comprehensive care unit (UAI) of the Darío Machuca Palacios Hospital in La Troncal canton, Patient information was obtained by applying the questionnaire "Evaluation of Adherence to Antiretroviral Treatment (CEAT-HIV) prior to signing the informed consent form, and CD4 lymphocyte count and viral load were taken from the IAU matrix. SPSS v23 was used for tabulation, data processing and statistical analysis. The average age was 37.58 years, the predominant age group was 31-50 years with 51.2%, male sex 52.5%, single marital status 46.3%, the level of adherence found was 37.5% insufficient adherence to antiretroviral
treatment, 26.25% had low adherence, 23.75% had adequate adherence, and only 12.5% had strict adherence to antiretroviral treatment. It was found that most of the patients had insufficient adherence to antiretroviral treatment. The duration of ART has a statistically significant relationship with adherence to antiretroviral treatment P= 0.021. |
| Resumen : | La adherencia adecuada al tratamiento antirretroviral (TAR) suprime la replicación del VIH, logrando cargas virales indetectables en la sangre previene su propagación, prolonga y mejora la calidad de vida del paciente. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la adherencia al TAR en pacientes con VIH que acuden al Hospital Darío Machuca Palacios del cantón La Troncal de octubre 2022 a marzo 2023, siendo de tipo descriptivo observacional con una población de 80 pacientes registrados en la unidad de atención integral (UAI) del VIH del
Hospital Darío Machuca Palacios del cantón La Troncal, la información de los pacientes se obtuvo aplicando el cuestionario de “Evaluación de la Adhesión al Tratamiento antirretroviral (CEAT-VIH) previo a la firma del consentimiento informado, y de la matriz de la UAI se tomó el recuento de linfocitos CD4 y carga viral. Para la tabulación, procesamiento de información y respectivo análisis estadístico se empleó el SPSS v23. La edad promedio fue de 37,58 años, predominó la edad de 31-50 años con 51,2%, el sexo masculino 52,5%, estado civil soltero 46,3%, el nivel de adherencia encontrado fue 37,5% adherencia insuficiente al tratamiento
antirretroviral, el 26,25 % presenta baja adherencia, el 23,75% adherencia adecuada, y solo el 12,5% presenta adherencia estricta al tratamiento antirretroviral. Se evidenció que la mayor parte de los pacientes tenían una adherencia insuficiente al tratamiento antirretroviral. El tiempo de duración del TAR tiene relación estadísticamente significativa con la adherencia al tratamiento antirretroviral P= 0,021. |
