Abstract: | Background: Anemia is recognized as a public health problem, causing problems in social and economic progress, according to the WHO there are approximately 2,000 million people with anemia in the world, 50% of them due to iron deficiency, affecting preschool-age children (2-5 years).
Objective: To determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children under 5 years of age treated at the Totoracocha Health Center in 2022.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, which allowed determining the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children under 5 years of age. The data were obtained from the database of the Totoracocha Health Center laboratory and were analyzed in Microsoft Excel and the statistical software SPSS, the Statistical association between variables was performed using frequency tables and Chi square.
Results: A total of 384 children under 5 years of age were registered, of which 5.5% presented iron deficiency anemia, with the highest number of cases in the range from 0 to 1 year of age corresponding to 17.6%, mostly male 9.2% and rural residence 23.6%.
Conclusion: The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children under 5 years of age at the Totoracocha Health Center during the year 2022 is 5.5%, mostly from rural areas and between 0 and 1 years of age. |
Description: | Antecedentes: La anemia es reconocida como un problema de salud pública, provocando problemas en el progreso social y económico, según la OMS existe aproximadamente 2.000 millones de personas con anemia en el mundo, de estos el 50% por deficiencia de hierro, afectando principalmente a los niños en edad preescolar (2-5 años).
Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de anemia ferropénica en niños menores de 5 años atendidos en el Centro de Salud Totoracocha en el año 2022.
Métodos: El estudio realizado fue de tipo descriptivo, transversal, que permitió determinar la prevalencia de anemia ferropénica en niños menores de 5 años, los datos se obtuvieron a partir de la base de datos del laboratorio del Centro de Salud Totoracocha y fueron analizados en Microsoft Excel y en el software estadístico SPSS, la asociación estadística entre las variables se realizó mediante tablas de frecuencias y Chi cuadrado.
Resultados: Se registraron un total de 384 niños menores de 5 años, de los cuales el 5.5 % presentaron anemia ferropénica, con mayor número de casos en el rango de 0 a 1 año de edad correspondiente al 17.6 %, en su mayoría de sexo masculino 9.2% y residencia rural 23.6%.
Conclusión: La prevalencia de anemia ferropénica en niños menores de 5 años en el Centro de Salud Totoracocha durante el año 2022 es del 5.5%, en su mayoría del área rural y entre 0 a 1 año de edad. |
