| Abstract: | Introduction: Knowledge about the normal growth and development of the head and neck are
essential to establish the anterior-posterior position of the jaw and thus determine any
alterations that may occur in individuals. Objective: Determine the jaw body length and
compare it with the SN-GoGn angle using digital lateral cephalic radiographs in patients
among 18 and 45 years old. Materials and Methods: A Quantitative, observational, crosssectional study has been carried out using 384 lateral cephalic radiographs from a
Radiological Center of Cuenca - Ecuador. The variables studied were: jaw body length, SNGoGn angle and gender. The measurements were made by a trained expert examiner, using
AUTOCAD 2018 software. The data obtained were recorded in an Excel spreadsheet, useful
to the statistical analysis. Pearson's R correlation coefficient has been used; for interpretation
of the values, the suggestion of Cohen (1988) has been followed; null correlation (0.00 ≤ r <
0.10), slight correlation (0.10 ≤ r <0.30), moderate correlation (0.30 ≤ r < 0.50) and strong
correlation 0.50 ≤ r < 1). SPSS V27 statistical program has been used to process the data.
Results A moderate positive correlation of 0.83 between jaw body length and SN-GoGn angle
in patients among 18 and 45 years old has been found out. Conclusion: A moderate positive
correlation between the mandibular body and the SN-GoGn angle has been found in the
sample studied. |
| Description: | Introducción. El conocimiento sobre crecimiento y desarrollo normal de cabeza y el cuello,
son fundamentales para establecer la posición antero-posterior de la mandíbula y de esta
manera determinar alteraciones que puedan presentarse en los individuos. Objetivo:
Establecer la longitud del cuerpo de la mandíbula y su relación con el ángulo SN-GoGn en
radiografías cefálicas laterales digitales de individuos entre 18 y 45 años de edad. Materiales
y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, observacional, correlacional, de corte
transversal, en 384 radiografías cefálicas laterales digitalizadas que reposan en el archivo de
un centro radiológico de la ciudad de Cuenca. Las variables estudiadas fueron: longitud del
cuerpo mandibular, ángulo SN-GoGn y sexo. Las mediciones fueron realizadas por un
examinador experto entrenado previamente, se utilizó el software AUTOCAD 2018. Los datos
obtenidos fueron registrados en una hoja de cálculo Excel, lo que nos permitió analizar la
información. Se empleó el coeficiente de correlación R de Pearson, para la interpretación se
siguió la sugerencia de Cohen (1988); correlación nula (0.00 ≤ r < 0.10), correlación leve (0.10
≤ r <0.30), correlación moderada (0.30 ≤ r < 0.50) y correlación fuerte 0.50 ≤ r < 1) Los datos
fueron procesados estadísticamente mediante el programa estadístico SPSS V27.
Resultados: Los resultados expusieron una correlación positiva moderada de 0.83 entre la
longitud del cuerpo mandibular y el ángulo SN-GoGn, en pacientes de 18 a 45 años de edad.
Conclusión: Presenta una correlación positiva moderada entre la longitud mandibular y el
ángulo SN-GoGn en la muestra estudiada |
