| Abstract: | Executive functions are self-directed cognitive abilities that allow conscious control of behavior
and thought through self-regulation, in cognitive and emotional activity. The region of the brain
involved in these processes is located in the prefrontal lobe. For this reason, it becomes a
very important construct in the school environment because it constitutes a recent research
field. Therefore, the objective of the research was to determine the level of executive
functioning in children of initial 2 (children from 4 years to 5 years 11 months) and the
associated contextual factors in the city of Cuenca. The research followed a quantitative route,
with a correlational and cross-sectional scope with a non-probabilistic test for convenience.
The BRIEF-P questionnaire was applied to the parents to know the executive response of the
children under study. The results allowed us to know that there is a significant relationship
between the level of education of the parents, the age of the representative and the
socioeconomic level of identification of the families with the executive functioning of the boys
and girls and finally that the boys and girls of public schools they have an executive functioning
profile with greater difficulties than boys and girls from private institutions. |
| Description: | Las funciones ejecutivas son habilidades cognitivas autodirigidas que permiten el control
consciente de la conducta y pensamiento mediante la autorregulación, en la actividad
cognitiva y en la emocional. La región del cerebro implicada en estos procesos se localiza en
el lóbulo prefrontal. En tal razón, se convierte en un constructo muy importante en el ámbito
escolar porque constituye un campo de investigación reciente. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de la
investigación fue determinar el nivel de funcionamiento ejecutivo en niños y niñas de inicial 2
(niños de 4 años a 5 años 11 meses) y los factores contextuales asociados en la ciudad de
Cuenca. La investigación siguió una ruta cuantitativa, con un alcance correlacional y
transversal con un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. Se realizó la aplicación del
cuestionario BRIEF – P a los padres para conocer la respuesta ejecutiva de los niños y niñas
motivo de estudio. Los resultados permitieron conocer que hay relación significativa entre el
nivel de instrucción de los padres, edad del representante y el nivel socioeconómico de
identificación de las familias con el funcionamiento ejecutivo de los niños y niñas y finalmente
que los niños y niñas de escuelas fiscales tienen un perfil de funcionamiento ejecutivo con
mayores dificultades a los niños y niñas de instituciones particulares. |
