Abstract

Background: Aging and loneliness in our environment are not attended despite being a public health problem, therefore it is necessary to generate studies that identify the local reality. Objective: To determine the quality of life and feeling of loneliness of the elderly in the care center for the elderly of the Municipality, retirees from the electric company and the "El Vado" neighborhood in the city of Cuenca in September and October 2022. Method: A descriptive and trasnversal study. Surveys with three instruments (Jong Gierveld test, quality of life questionnaire (15D) and the socioeconomic stratification scale of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses) and informed consent were applied to 68 people. The analysis of variables was made with tables of frequency and percentages in the program SPSS V23.0 (test). Results: The study group is made up of 57.4% men. 39.7% between 65 and 74 years old, 50% married, 86.8% mestizo, 36.8% inactive. 45.5% of the typical middle class. Quality of life, in 13 of its 15 dimensions, is in category one or better quality of life; but, depression and anxiety in category five. The feeling of loneliness (moderately alone) predominated with 64.7%. Conclusions: Predominate: men, people between 65 and 74 years old, mestizos, married and inactive. Most of the typical middle stratum and quality of life is in category one, except for depression and anxiety which are in category five. There is a predominance of "moderately alone".
