Efectos económicos causados por el conflicto entre Rusia y Ucrania en las exportaciones del sector agrícola en Ecuador durante el primer semestre de 2022

Abstract

The agricultural industry plays a fundamental role in Ecuadorian exports, contributing significantly to the trade balance with its income generated by its main export products, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine caused negative effects on the world economy, causing supply and distribution problems, as well as increases in the prices of certain essential resources for agriculture, added to the strong international sanctions absorbed by Russia. The objective of this research is to determine what were the effects on the exports of the main agricultural export products during the first semester of 2022, collecting bibliographic information related to the conflict, the agricultural industry and accessing official databases such as the Central Bank of the Ecuador in order to visualize the changes that occurred in the export volume during the period before and after the war. Finally, it was possible to conclude that due to the conflict, banana and flower exports to the Eurasian market, as well as to Russia and Ukraine suffered a notable decrease, generating large losses for the sector that are reflected in the total trade balance and in the non-oil trade balance for the first half of 2022.
