Abstract: | Background. Cervical cancer is currently the fourth most common cancer in women
worldwide and the second cause of death from oncological diseases in Ecuadorian women,
surpassed only by breast cancer. Likewise, population at risk, mainly migrants and refugees,
show higher incidence and mortality rates in regard to this type of cancer, which is linked to
inadequate screening tests.
Objectives: To identify adherence to cervical cancer screening in migrant and refugee
women at GRACE foundation in the city of Cuenca in 2022.
Methods: This is a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study. A questionnaire to migrant
and refugee women at GRACE foundation was administered. The universe was 583 women,
the sample comprised 232 individuals aged 21-65 years. The restriction criteria were as
follows: prevalence data of 51% was used, in which the sample value is the result of a 95%
confidence interval and 5% alpha error. These data were processed using Excel and SPSS
programs to tabulate and analyze their variables, frequency, and percentages.
Results: The data show that out of the total number of respondents,207(86,3%) have had a
PAP test at some time in their life, while 33 (13,8%) have never had this test; 89.6 % of the
respondents were favored by being aware of the PAP test and 40.8% were limited by lack of
access.
Conclusions: There are statistically significant relationship in regard to adherence to the PAP
test, since GRACE foundation women were aware of this subject. Therefore, they have had
that test at some time in their life. Thus, knowledge and information allow better adherence
to it. |
