Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de docentes frente a la reproducción de estereotipos de género en la Unidad Educativa “Herlinda Toral'', septiembre 2022-febrero 2023

Abstract

The research was conducted at the Herlinda Toral Educational Unit in order to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the teaching staff regarding the reproduction of gender stereotypes. Since, it was determined the lack of a gender approach and its mainstreaming in the teaching and learning processes; moreover, as gender stereotypes have been present in education and have gone unnoticed at the time of educating students, naturalizing attitudes guided by social constructs. Therefore, a quantitative methodology supported by a survey of knowledge, attitudes and KAP practices was used to collect data on the reproduction of gender stereotypes, and for this purpose, 75 teachers from the morning and afternoon shifts were interviewed. The results obtained in the research show that teachers do not know what gender is, since they confuse it as the sex of women and men; they also show a different treatment for each sex in the classroom, i.e., a delicate treatment of women, but not rude treatment of men. Additionally, it was reflected that teachers consider the literature they use to teach free of all gender stereotypes, without clearly identifying what they are.
