Prevalencia y caracterización de los delitos sexuales en el cantón Biblian años 2019-2020

Abstract

Background: There is a worrying reality about sexual crimes in the Ecuadorian society and its main victims are children and adolescents. These sex crimes cause serious physical, psychological and social damages. This should be viewed as a health problem and requires immediate interventionso these crimes can be prevented. Objective: To determine the prevalence and characterization of sexual crimes in the Biblián Canton, 2019 to 2020. Methodology: descriptive study of prevalence. 36 medical-legal reports between the years 2019 and 2020 were reviewed in the Prosecutor's Office of the Biblián Canton. The SPSS software was used for the analysis, absolute, relative, mean and standard deviation frequencies were used for the descriptive statistical analysis and the chi-square statistic was used for the associations. Results: The victims of sexual crimes were characterized as having a mean age of 17.6 years, 63.9% adolescents, 97.2% women, 86.1% from rural areas; while 50% had primary education and 83.3% of the victims were single. These crimes were most often carried out at the victim's home (44.4%). 55.6% of sexual crimes were caused by relatives. In 8.3% the aggressor committed the sexual offense while intoxicated. The prevalence of sexual crimes was 26.9 per 10,000 inhabitantsin the Canton of Biblián. Rape with a 58.3% and sexual harassment with a 38.9% were the most frequent sexual crimes in the rural sector. Living in a rural area presented a much higher probability of these sex crimes compared to other sectors of the country. (p:0.03). Conclusion: the prevalence of sexual crimes in the Biblián canton is lower than the general average of the country, residing in the rural sector is a risk factor for sexual crimes.
