| Abstract: | The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle has promoted the urban developers' model of urban living,
as an urban fashion. However, this growth has been characterized by its fragmentation and
sectorization, generating unequal conditions for its inhabitants. Hence, in order to deepen
the knowledge of this problem, the present thesis aims to analyze the socio-spatial
segregation caused by private and multifamily housing developments in the city of Cuenca,
Ecuador during the period 2016-2020. A mixed methodology (qualitative and quantitative)
was used, which facilitated the use of techniques and tools, both for data collection and
analysis. Among the main results of the theoretical analysis, it is evident that studies on sociospatial segregation corroborate significant gaps between poor and rich, evidence of the unfair
redistribution of land and the increase of social problems.
Regarding the diagnosis of socio-spatial segregation generated by private and multifamily housing developments in the urban area of Cuenca, it is generally evident that in the
urban area of this city there is perceived the existence of socio-spatial segregation, since there
is little social interaction between the inhabitants of these buildings and their immediate
surroundings. With respect to the social, environmental and legal problems of socio-spatial
segregation generated by private housing developments and multi-family housing, among
other issues, the need to implement strategies to reduce social and spatial gaps is identified,
especially the articulation of public spaces and the connection of the road system, avoiding
privatization and promoting the integration of the population that chooses this type of housing
and the population living in the surrounding areas, thus generating social cohesion. In the
legal sphere, it is important to reform laws, rules and regulations that adjust to the current
dynamics of cities. Based on these data, some recommendations are presented to help reduce
the generation of socio-spatial segregation in the city of Cuenca |
| Description: | El estilo de vida anglosajón ha promovido en las personas desarrolladoras urbanas el
modelo de vida amuradas, como una moda urbana. Sin embargo, este crecimiento se ha
caracterizado por su fragmentación y sectorización, generando condiciones de desigualdad
para sus habitantes. De ahí que, a fin de profundizar en el conocimiento de esta problemática,
la presente tesis tiene por objetivo analizar la segregación socio-espacial provocada por
urbanizaciones privadas y multifamiliares en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador durante el
período 2016-2020. Se utilizó una metodología mixta (cualitativa y cuantitativa) que facilitó
la utilización de técnicas y herramientas, tanto para la obtención de datos como para su
análisis. Entre los principales resultados del análisis teórico se evidencia que los estudios
sobre segregación socio-espacial corroboran brechas significativas entre pobres y ricos,
evidencian la injusta redistribución de tierras y el incremento de problemas sociales.
Respecto al diagnóstico de la segregación socio-espacial generada por las
urbanizaciones privadas y multifamiliares en el área urbana de Cuenca, queda en evidencia
de manera general, que en el área urbana de esta ciudad se percibe la existencia de
segregación socio espacial, ya que se afirma la existencia de escasa interacción social entre
los habitantes de estas edificaciones y su entorno próximo. Respecto a los problemas sociales,
ambientales y jurídicos de la segregación socio-espacial que generan las urbanizaciones
privadas y los multifamiliares se identifica entre otros temas la necesidad de implementar
estrategias que disminuyan las brechas sociales y espaciales, especialmente, se debe buscar
la articulación de los espacios públicos y la conexión del sistema vial, evitando la
privatización y propendiendo a la integración de la población que optan por este tipo de
viviendas y la población que viven en los alrededores, generando de esta forma cohesión
social. En el ámbito jurídico, es importante la reforma de leyes, normas y reglamentos que
se ajusten a la dinámica actual de las ciudades. A partir de estos datos se presentan algunas
recomendaciones que aporten a reducir la generación de segregación socio espacial en la
ciudad de Cuenca |
