| Abstract: | To determine the prevalence and factors related to the survival of patients diagnosed with prostatic cancer; hospitalized in SOLCA-Cuenca Institute, from 1995 to 2004. Material and Methods: A transversal study was made in a group of 358 patients. The data was collected from the clinical story and analyzed with Microsoft excel and SPSS
software.Results: The age fluctuated between 37 and 91 years. The average was 70.8 ± 9.4; 51.4
% had primary school education. The global survival in five years was 74.3% and there was no significant difference between the younger and older patients of sixty years old. The survival of the patients in the five year range was significant because they had the DRE normal (RP 0.8, IC 95% 0.7 – 0.9, p=0.006) a concentration of PSA less than 20ng/ml (RP 0.75, IC 95% 0.66-
0.86, p= 0.000), with normal ecography (RP 0.88, IC 95% 0.78-0.99, p=0.063), without symptoms at the beginning of the diagnosis (RP 0.79, IC 95% 0.70-0.89, p= 0.015), clinical period I (RP 0.78, IC 0.68-0.89, p= 0.103) and Gleason scale less than 7 (RP 0.60, IC 95% 0.47-0.77, p= 0.000). Although the relation was not significant with people who had family relations with prostatic cancer (RP 1.08, IC 95% 0.91-1.28, p= 0.432).
Conclusion: The survival prevalence of patients with PC was of 74.3 % and was related positively with the DRE normal, concentration of PSA less of 20 ng/ml, normal ecography, without symptoms, clinical period I and Gleason scale less than 7 |
| Description: | Determinar la prevalencia y factores relacionados de sobrevida global a 5 años de pacientes diagnosticados de cáncer de próstata, ingresados en el Instituto del Cáncer SOLCA-Cuenca, durante 1995-2004. Material y métodos: se realizó un estudio transversal en universo de 358 pacientes. Los datos fueron recolectados de las historias clínicas y analizadas con la ayuda del software Excel y SPSS. Resultados: la edad fluctuó entre 37 y 91 años, la media fue de 70.8 ± 9.4; el 51.4% tenían instrucción primaria. La sobrevida global a 5 años fue del 74.3% y no hubo diferencia significativa entre los menores y mayores a 60 años. La relación entre sobrevida global a 5 años fue significativa con tacto rectal normal (RP 0.8, IC 95% 0.7 0.9, p=0.006), concentración de PSA menor a 20 ng/ml (RP 0.75, IC 95% 0.66-0.86, p= 0.000), ecografía normal (RP 0.88, IC 95% 0.78-0.99, p=0.063), asintomáticos al momento del diagnóstico (RP 0.79, IC 95% 0.70-0.89, p= 0.015), etapa clínica I (RP 0.78, IC 0.68-0.89, p= 0.103) y escala de Gleason menor a 7 (RP 0.60, IC 95% 0.47-0.77, p= 0.000); pero la relación no fue significativa con el antecedente negativo de cáncer de próstata en familiares de primer grado (RP 1.08, IC 95% 0.91-1.28, p= 0.432). Conclusión : la prevalencia de sobrevida global a 5 años de pacientes con cáncer de próstata fue del 74.3%, y se relacionó positivamente con tacto rectal normal, concentración de PSA menor a 20 ng/ml, ecografía normal, asintomáticos, etapa clínica I y escala de Gleason menor a 7.
