| Abstract: | Social support networks provide cooperation and support practices that generate
cohesion and coping strategies in the groups, as well as mitigate the lack of the State and the
social nucleus in general, making it easier to cope with critical situations such as migration,
since the migratory phenomenon in the rural sector has an impact on the proper aging process.
In order to understand the functioning of social support networks in older adults with
migrant families, the study was based on a rights-based approach. The general objective of
the study was to explore the functioning of social support networks in older adults with
migrant families in the parish of Baños, and the specific objectives were to identify the social
support networks, to investigate their functioning as perceived by older adults, and to
describe the influence of migration on informal family support networks. The research had a
qualitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and exploratory approach. Semi-structured
interviews and focus groups were used as techniques. Twenty (20) older adults and four (4)
guardians of older adults belonging to the program of the Gobierno Autónomo
Descentralizado de Baños, in the city of Cuenca, and the Ministerio de Inclusión Económica
y Social (MIES) participated in the study.
The results obtained showed that the older adults have primary support networks such
as: their partners, children, and neighbors; they do not perceive support from the network of
friends and the community, but they do from the group of older adults to which they belong;
as for the formal networks, they recognize the good treatment by institutions such as: the
bank, the electric company, drinking water, the parish Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado
(GAD) and the health center, however, they do not provide comprehensive care in the
fulfillment of their rights as a priority care group; as for the influence of the migration process
on the family networks it mainly influences the family structure, generating the adoption of
new roles, abandonment was not recognized as an influence of migration |
| Description: | Las redes de apoyo social proporcionan prácticas de cooperación y apoyo que generan
estrategias de cohesión y afrontamiento en los grupos, así mismo, mitigan la carencia del
Estado y del núcleo social en general, haciendo más fácil sobrellevar situaciones críticas
como la migración, puesto que, el fenómeno migratorio en el sector rural incide en el
adecuado proceso de envejecimiento.
Para comprender el funcionamiento de las redes de apoyo social en adultos mayores
con familias migrantes, el estudio giró en torno a un enfoque de derechos. El estudio persigue
como objetivo general explorar el funcionamiento de las redes de apoyo social en adultos
mayores con familias migrantes en la parroquia Baños y como objetivos específicos se
plantea identificar las redes de apoyo social, indagar sobre el funcionamiento de estas,
percibido por los adultos mayores y describir la influencia de la migración en las redes de
apoyo familiar informal. La investigación tuvo un enfoque cualitativo, de diseño no
experimental, transversal y de alcance exploratorio. Se utilizó como técnicas la entrevista
semi estructurada y los grupos focales. Se contó con la participación de 20 Adultos Mayores
y 4 tutores de los Adultos Mayores pertenecientes al programa del Gobierno Autónomo
Descentralizado de Baños, en el cantón Cuenca, y el Ministerio de Inclusión Económica y
Social (MIES).
Los resultados obtenidos reflejaron que los adultos mayores cuentan con redes de
apoyo primarias como: la pareja, los hijos y vecinos; no perciben apoyo por parte de la red
de amigos y por parte de la comunidad, pero si del grupo de adultos mayores al que
pertenecen; en cuanto a las redes formales se reconoce el buen trato por instituciones como:
el banco, la empresa eléctrica, el agua potable, el GAD parroquial y el centro de salud, sin
embargo, no brindan una atención integral en el cumplimiento de sus derechos como grupo
de atención prioritaria; en cuanto a la influencia del proceso migratorio en las redes familiares
influye principalmente en la estructura familiar, generando la adopción de nuevos roles, no
se reconoció el abandono como una influencia de la migración. |
