| Abstract: | Objective: To determine the atrial fibrillation prevalence, the associated factors and prediction of cerebrovascular disease in patients older than 44 years,admitted in the Internal Medicine Department of the Vicente Corral Moscoso
Hospital, during 2008-2009.- Material and methods
This study was a crosswise one, in a representative sample of 520 patients. This sample was calculated on the socket of a finite universe (970), confidence level of 95%, acuity of 2% and forfeitures of 20%.- Results: The median of the age was of 65.5 years, with a rank between 45 and 79. The women were represented with 56.2%. The atrial fibrillation prevalencewas 6.3% (CI 95% 4.22-8.38); 7.2% in female (CI 95% 4.24-10.16), and 5.3% in male (CI 95% 2.4-8.2). People between 45 and 65 years had a 10.4% of prevalence (CI 95% 6.87-13.83) and 1.3% in patients older than 64 years (CI95% 0-2.75). The 57.6% of the patients had moderate risk to develop cerebrovascular illness, and 42.4% had a high risk. The association betweenatrial fibrillation with hypertension, cardiac failure and the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was significant (RP 5.5, CI 95% 2.8-10.7 and p=0.000; RP 6.4, CI 95% 3.4-12.0 and p=0.000 and RP 3.1, CI 95% 1.6-6.0 and p=0.001 respectively). But, with the diabetes mellitus type 2, the association was not
significant (RP 0.5, CI 95% 0.1-1.5 and p=0.166).
Conclusion.- The atrial fibrillation prevalence was of 6.3% (CI 95% 4.22-8.38) and it was
associated positively with arterial hypertension, cardiac failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease |
| Description: | Se realizó un estudio transversal en una muestra representativa de 520 pacientes. Esta se calculó sobre la base de un universo finito (970), nivel de confianza del 95%, precisión del 2% y pérdidas del 20%. Resultados: la mediana de la edad fue de 65.5 años, con un rango entre 45 y 79. Las mujeres estaban representadas con el 56.2%. La prevalencia de fibrilación auricular fue del 6.3% (IC 95% 4.22-8.38); en el sexo femenino, del 7.2% (IC 95% 4.24-10.16) y en los hombres, de 5.3% (IC 95% 2.4-8.2).Entre los 45 y 65 años de edad, del 10.4% (IC 95% 6.87-13.83) y en los mayores de 64 años, del 1.3% (IC 95% 0-2.75). Tenían riesgo moderado para desarrollar enfermedad cerebrovascular, el 57.6% y alto, el 42.4%.La asociación entre fibrilación auricular con la hipertensión arterial, insuficiencia cardiaca y la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica fue significativa (RP 5.5, IC 95% 2.8-10.7 y p=0.000; RP 6.4, IC 95% 3.4 -12.0 y p=0.000 y RP 3.1, IC 95% 1.6-6.0 y p=0.001 respectivamente). Pero, con la diabetes mellitus tipo 2, la asociación no fue significativa (RP 0.5, IC 95% 0.1-1.5 y p=0.166).
