Abstract: | This study examined the relationship between surface temperature and
greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the Ecuadorian continent in 2019, using the Sentinel 5P
satellite. GHGs have been in the atmosphere for a long time allowing the planet to be
habitable; however, due to human activities, these gases have been increasing,
influencing air quality and climate change. For this reason, there is a necessity to know
in greater detail the concentrations of these gases; however, no studies have been
carried out using Sentinel 5P in Ecuador.
The purpose of the study was to determine whether the surface air temperature
is higher in areas with elevated GHG concentrations. The GHGs analyzed were NO2,
SO2, and O3, another gas studied was CO, which is an indirect GHGs, for which the
Sentinel 5P remote sensor and the INAMHI meteorological stations were used. The
aforementioned gases were analyzed using the IDW and Simple Kriging interpolation
methods, given the IDW method better results. Subsequently, the IDW method and
the GHG were analyzed using the Simple Linear Regression and Multiple Linear
Regression methods.
According to the analysis carried out, it was concluded that there was a low
relationship between GHG and Surface Temperature when the gases were analyzed
individually. On the other hand, when all gases were analyzed together, the results
showed a higher influence on temperature.
This study will serve to carry out more complex studies in the Andean region
using GHG and surface temperature. |
