| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Tree tomato Solanum betaceum (Cav.) is an important crop for families in the Ecuadorian highlands and also constitutes a significant economic activity for the country. Therefore, several studies have been carried out to improve its productivity. However, an important aspect that has not been considered in the physiology of this species is the leaf area. This information is essential to study the light capture capacity of the canopy, as well as the relationship between biomass accumulation and productivity. In this study, a simple, accurate, nondestructive method for leaf area estimation in tree tomato was determined. For this purpose, 4 sampling sites were established and 3 methodologies were applied: linear measurements of the leaf, a mobile application and the scanning and analysis of digital images of the leaf. These data were used to establish allometric equations by using regressions to determine to a high degree the leaf area and to obtain the equation that provides as a result a very close value to the real one. The results showed that the mobile application obtained a 92% explanatory capacity for the variability of the estimated results. However, their efficiency was determined by the morphological characteristics of the plant, camera angle and RGB combinations. On the other hand, regression models based on leaf dimensions provided highly accurate estimates for the rapid and economical determination of leaf area, with coefficients above 78%. However, if we use length x width of leaf with potential or linear models, the coefficient of determination will be 92%, indicating a close relationship between the estimated and observed data. | en_US |
