Lineamientos para el emplazamiento de un terminal terrestre al sur del cantón Cuenca

Abstract

Cuenca in Ecuador has experienced a population growth that has increased the travel times required to get different services. Access to public transport offered at the bus terminal "Terminal Terrestre de Cuenca" also requires longer travel times from various origins to its facilities. This situation has forced service users to create ad-hoc stops to reduce the access time to a bus which takes them to their final destination from the terminal. Narancay is an urban limit to the south that has now become a bus stop where a high number of users access the service in non-regulated and inappropriate spaces. This study investigates the feasibility of creating a new bus terminal in a lot of adequate dimensions that is located precisely in the Narancay sector. A methodology for the feasibility analysis is proposed, based on the demand of current and future passengers, the supply capacity in the infrastructure and the savings in travel time of potential users. The intention is to contribute to the decisionmaking that improve service conditions, protecting the safety of users. The results are promising and it is observed that a terminal to the south is feasible and beneficial for several zones of the city, from the perspective of our analysis.
