Abstract: | Human mobility generates different changes and adaptations in the human groups that come
into contact. This occurs in the case of the Afro-Ecuadorian community residing in the city
of Cuenca, whose dialect will be the object of study of this research. We are interested in
knowing the current characteristics of the dialect of the Afro-Ecuadorian community residing
in Cuenca and what is the linguistic attitude of this community in relation to the Cuenca
dialect.
To this end, we will analyze the phenomenon from the notions of linguistic contact
and linguistic attitude, which studies what happens when there is contact between languages
or dialects where, in general, the language or dialect that, according to the speakers, has
greater prestige prevails. Our research was qualitative with a descriptive and interpretative
approach; the techniques used for data collection were interviews and non-participatory
observation.
The sample consisted of 20 informants belonging to the Afrodescendant Movement
of Azuay "María del Tránsito Sozorra". Finally, we present the results of our fieldwork in
tables that exemplify the phenomena that the theory of linguistic contact and linguistic
awareness addresses |
