| Abstract: | Basketry is a patrimonial and cultural heritage of the San Joaquín parish.
Basketry items are used decoratively and utilitarianly. The
basketry handicrafts are offered in craft spaces of the parish
San Joaquín and the city of Cuenca. The artisans of San Joaquín make
different crafts with their skillful hands. Basketry has unique aspects
and it is necessary to safeguard this trade for future generations. The
title awarded to Cuenca World City of Crafts contributes to the assessment
of traditional crafts and trades. Therefore, the city of Cuenca
and the San Joaquín parish are located on the international platform, highlighting
the craft attribute.
The methodology used is qualitative through the interview conducted with
different artisans from San Joaquín. The investigation begins with
conceptualization of important terms related to tourism, culture
and crafts. Later we find general specifications on the
basketry and the analysis of the interviews carried out.
Finally, the importance of the title World City of the
Crafts, awarded to Cuenca.

Los artículos en cestería son utilizados de forma decorativa y utilitaria. Las
artesanías en cestería son ofertadas en espacios artesanales de la parroquia
San Joaquín y de la ciudad de Cuenca. Los artesanos de San Joaquín fabrican
diferentes artesanías con sus hábiles manos. La cestería tiene aspectos únicos
y es necesario salvaguardar este oficio para las próximas generaciones. El
título otorgado a Cuenca Ciudad Mundial de la Artesanía aporta a la valoración
de las artesanías y oficios tradicionales. Por consiguiente, la ciudad de Cuenca
y la parroquia San Joaquín se ubican en la plataforma internacional, realzando
el atributo artesanal.
La metodología utilizada es cualitativa por medio de la entrevista realizada a
distintos artesanos de San Joaquín. La investigación inicia con la
conceptualización de importantes términos relacionados con el turismo, cultura
y artesanías. Posteriormente encontramos especificaciones generales sobre la
cestería y el análisis de las entrevistas realizadas.
Finalmente, se considera la trascendencia del título Ciudad Mundial de la
Artesanía, otorgado a Cuenca.
