Evaluación del grado de sobrecarga en los padres cuidadores de niños y niñas con síndrome de Down de los centros Adinea y Cedin Down. Cuenca 2021

Abstract

Background: Down syndrome is considered one of the most common congenital anomalies, due to which children may have functional and cognitive limitations. Consequently, children need support from the family and their context to be able to develop in their environment. However, parents, in the presence of a child with this syndrome, have confused emotions, feelings of guilt, detachment and denial; leading to t rejection of the situation. Likewise, families experience an additional burden that affects their health. From the aforementioned and, consequently, the present investigation was carried out in the ADINEA and CEDIN DOWN centers of the city of Cuenca. Objective: To determine the degree of overload of parents caring for boys and girls with Down Syndrome at the "ADINEA" and "CEDIN DOWN" centers, through the application of the Zarit Scale. Methods: The collection procedure was from a primary source through the application of the ZARIT Scale and the data collection form. The scale was applied with all biosecurity measures. For the analysis and tabulation of the results, the IBM SPSS program were used. For the analysis of quantitative variables, measures of central tendency were used; mean median and mode. For qualitative analysis there are frequency tables and statistical graphs. Results: Of the sample of 40 parents who care for boys and girls with Down Syndrome who attend the "ADINEA" and "CEDIN DOWN" centers, 50% present no overload, 15% slight overload and 35% overload intense.
