Abstract: | The provision of hotel services in the city of Cuenca has grown from
accelerated, the tourist potential of this city has allowed its
inhabitants dedicate themselves fully to promoting all services of a character
tourism and position this activity as one of the most important in the
social, cultural and economic environment.
At present, technological advancement has forced those who participate in the
hospitality to be at the forefront of strategies, advertising tactics and the emergence
of new forms of business, the hotel sector is not alien to this reality, for
what has had to be renewed and projected to be competitive within a
market characterized by constantly changing. To achieve this goal,
accommodation establishments today work hand in hand with the
Virtual Travel Agencies known as OTA’s, which had their boom
in 1996, being the pioneer Expedia, followed by Booking.com.
According to World Travel Market Latin America, these engines capture 75% of the
reserves worldwide. Expedia and Booking.com are two of the OTAs that
dominate the lodging reservation market today; whereby,
This degree work presents through a qualitative study,
the reality of the accommodation sector of the city of Cuenca in terms of management
from Expedia and Booking.com.
The development of a manual was considered necessary because, in the process
investigative, it was possible to identify shortcomings in the management of the OTAs; Thus
will have information that will help staff within the hotel sector, to
use these technological tools efficiently.

Description: | La prestación de servicios hoteleros en la ciudad de Cuenca ha crecido de
manera acelerada, el potencial turístico de esta urbe ha permitido que sus
habitantes se dediquen de lleno a impulsar todos los servicios de carácter
turístico y posicionar a esta actividad como una de las más importantes en el
entorno social, cultural y económico.
En la actualidad, el avance tecnológico ha obligado a quienes participan en la
hotelería a estar a la vanguardia de estrategias, tácticas publicitarias y el surgir
de nuevas formas de negocio, el sector hotelero no es ajeno a esta realidad, por
lo que ha tenido que renovarse y proyectarse para ser competitivo dentro de un
mercado caracterizado por cambiar constantemente. Para lograr este cometido,
los establecimientos de alojamiento hoy en día trabajan de la mano con las
Agencias de Viajes Virtuales conocidas como OTA’s, las cuales tuvieron su auge
en el año de 1996, siendo la pionera Expedia, seguida por Booking.com.
Según World Travel Market Latin America, estos motores captan el 75% de las
reservas a nivel mundial. Expedia y Booking.com son dos de las OTA´s que
dominan el mercado de reservas de alojamiento en la actualidad; por lo cual,
este trabajo de titulación presenta a través de un estudio de carácter cualitativo,
la realidad del sector de alojamiento de la ciudad de Cuenca en cuanto al manejo
de Expedia y Booking.com.
Se consideró necesario el desarrollo de un manual debido a que, en el proceso
investigativo, se pudo identificar falencias en la gestión de las OTA’s; así se
contará con información que ayudará al personal dentro del sector hotelero, a
utilizar de manera eficiente estas herramientas tecnológicas.
