Abstract: | According to FAO estimates, the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is the most widely
consumed vegetable worldwide due to its high nutritional content. In Ecuador it is
considered a product of the basic family basket and represents the source of economic
income for small and medium farmers. The production of this crop is seriously affected
by the different pathogenic fungi such as (Botrytis cinerea) that significantly damages the
crop causing losses up to 100%. Control of the disease is mainly achieved using synthetic
fungicides, but updated studies show this type of control is becoming less effective due
to: repetitive use, incorrect dosages and resistance developed, that is why through
alternative products is intended to reduce the use of synthetic inputs. The present research
was conducted with the objective of evaluating the optimal dose of calcium polysulfide
for the control of (Botrytis cinerea), the results vary between treatments in terms of
incidence and severity of the disease, the lowest incidence (50 %) and severity (17.19 %)
was obtained with calcium polysulfide at 5%. Application costs of the was $ 2.32 per
cycle. The application of different doses of calcium polysulphide did not present a
significant difference regarding the incidence compared to the control treatment
(boscalid), but the severity of the disease in the control treatmen was lower (7,81 %). |
