Variación de niveles de glicemia perioperatoria en pacientes no diabéticas sometidas a cirugía gineco-obstétrica mediante pruebas de glicemia capilar en los hospitales José Carrasco Arteaga y Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2019 - 2020

Abstract

Introduction: The variability of glycemia in non-diabetic patients in both obstetric and gynecological surgery is unknown. Objective: To determine the variation of perioperative glycemic levels in non-diabetic patients undergoing gynecological-obstetric surgery. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out, from June 2019 to March 2020. The population was made up of non-diabetic patients who underwent both balanced general and neuraxial anesthesia procedures, who met the inclusion criteria; the sample is representative and random. For the sample calculation, the following requirements were taken into account: the prevalence of hyperglycemia in non-diabetics 30%, confidence level of 95%. (273 patients), The data were transcribed from the clinical history, AS400 system to the respective forms and direct source of the patients, which were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 system. In the data analysis, simple tables, measures of central tendency, position, and dispersion were used. For the analysis of the glycemic variation, the Kruskal Wallis test was applied for non-parametric variables. Difference of medians and p value to see if there is an association. Results: General and neuraxial anesthesia is associated with a significant increase in preoperative glycemia values for both intra and postoperative values. The most frequent age group is between 18 and 37 years old with 55.3%. Open surgery is the one performed more frequently with 74.7%, 63.7% of the operated patients are overweight. Conclusions: General and neuraxial anesthesia are associated with an increase in intra- and postoperative glycemia with respect to baseline values, there are no significant differences between them.
