Abstract: | BACKGROUND: Injuries caused by sports such as triathlon are the main cause of
sports inactivity; therefore, an injury risk assessment is essential for early
intervention.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the risk of suffering lower limb injuries through the Y
Balance Test in triathletes of the “Federation Deportiva del Azuay”.
METHODOLOGY: A prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional quantitative
observational study was carried out in a group of triathletes; where the Y Balance
Test was applied to evaluate dynamic balance, the results were collected through
the Move2perform software using an algorithm that determined the level of risk of
suffering non-contact injuries. The processing was carried out in the SPSS 25
software and the decisions were made with a significance of 0.05.
RESULTS: A total of 30 triathletes were evaluated, in which the mean age was 16.30
(Standard Deviation = 4.02) years, according to the performance obtained in the
YBT, 86.7% of the population obtained a performance "below the standard".
According to the level of risk of suffering injuries, 10% qualified within the mild risk
category, 63.3% moderate risk, and 26.7% substantial risk.
CONCLUSION: A large percentage of the population studied has a high risk of
suffering injuries, derived from the instability of the lower limb, the highest
percentage of risk of injury was present in men with 46.6%, the most frequent age
of propensity to be injured was 13 years with 36.6%. |
