Abstract: | The following degree work proposes the rehabilitation of deteriorated pavements using recycled
material obtained from milling the asphalt layer of the road to be rehabilitated. The road of interest
is the Guangarcucho - Jadán, which has a rehabilitation design carried out by the ASFALTAR
EP company. It will be compared with the rehabilitation proposed in this study in terms of
constructive and economic aspects.
As part of the development of this work, the characteristics of the milled material are evaluated,
by means of the granulometry test to determine if it fits as a base-type material. The Modified
Proctor test is also performed to know the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content.
Moreover, the residual asphalt extraction test is performed to determine the amount of asphalt
contained in the sample. Other tests carried out were abrasion resistance, specific gravity of fine
and coarse aggregates, and CBR.
The milled material was stabilized with two stabilizing agents: Holcim Base Vial cement and
CSS-REC asphalt emulsion. The mixture stabilized with the first agent was subjected to the
Simple Compression test to acquire its resistance at 7 and 28 days; while the mixture stabilized
with asphalt emulsion was subjected to the Marshall test to acquire its stability, flow and
percentage of voids. These mixtures were validated with the specifications of MOP-001-F 2002
standard. The mixture that obtained the best characteristics was the mixture with 5% of Base
Vial cement with respect to the weight of the aggregate; since it reached a resistance of 27.14
kg/cm2 under consideration within the rehabilitation design.
The design is based on the AASHTO 1993 method, obtaining the Structure Number that the
rehabilitation design proposed with recycled material will achieve, which must be in accordance
with the required Structural Number determined by the ASFALTAR EP company. Finally, the
budget for both rehabilitations and the difference between them is detailed, demonstrating the
economic benefits provided by recycling pavements where one can note a budget saving of
$56,776.94 with respect to the current rehabilitation. In this way, it is evident that the recycling
of this material provides an economic benefit for the project. |
detalla el presupuesto de ambas rehabilitaciones y la diferencia que existe entre ellas;
proyecto. |
