Abstract
The study starts with a theoretical revision of the growth of the cities, from the initial phase of the urban nucleus, to the phase of the metropolis. From there the study of the transportation and the types of displacements that according to the stage are required are discussed. It shows the case study of the city of Cuenca of Ecuador, in its development, as well as in the transformation of its public transport. Finally, the relationship between the evolution of cities and transport is discussed.
Resumen
El estudio parte por una revisión teórica del crecimiento de las ciudades, desde la fase inicial del núcleo urbano, hasta la fase de la metrópolis. Desde ahí se aborda el estudio de la transportación y los tipos de desplazamientos que según la fase se requieren. Se muestra el caso de estudio de la ciudad de Cuenca del Ecuador, en su desarrollo, así como en la transformación de su transporte público. Finalmente, se debate sobre la relación existente entre la evolución de las ciudades y el transporte.
