Abstract: | Background: The consumption of multiple medications is dangerous for patients,
since it favors the appearance of drug interactions (DI), adverse drug reactions
(ADR), longer hospitalization times, iatrogenic disease and complications that can
lead to the death of the patient.
Objetive: To determine the frequency of adverse reactions in patients with
depressive disorders treated at the Rest and Addiction Center and Psychiatric
Hospital "Humberto Camacho Ugalde". Cuenca 2019.
Methodology: An observational descriptive study was developed. The universe
included patients diagnosed with depressive disorders diagnosed at the Rest and
Addiction Center "Humberto Camacho Ugalde" Psychiatric Hospital. For this 125
medical records will be reviewed, all this information will be collected in the Data
Collection Form. The data was tabulated and analyzed using the Excel 2019
statistical program and the IBM SPSS version 22 program in Spanish. Where their
analysis was also performed, the results have been condensed into frequency and
percentage tables using descriptive statistics.
Results: The mean age was 43.74 years (± 74 years). Their average time of
diagnosis of the disease is 7.55 years (± 8.58 years). While the mean time of use of
the drug with which depression is treated was 4.81 years (± 6.71). A total of 27
different adverse reactions were obtained in the study. The most frequent adverse
reaction was drowsiness with 77 (34.2%) cases, then anxiety with 56 (24.9%) and
then abdominal pain with 18 (8%) cases.
Conclusion: Based on the data obtained from patients who presented adverse
effects, mostly drowsiness (34.2%), 67.5% were women and the remaining 32.5%
were men, data similar to other studies carried out in Latin America and London.
