Percepción de adolescentes escolarizados del décimo año de educación general básica acerca del control psicológico parental en el periodo 2019 - 2020

Abstract

Parental psychological control is considered as intrusive behavior that manipulates the thoughts, feelings and attachment of children towards parents, at the time of meddling in their emotional and psychological development. This study aims to describe the perceptions of adolescents on parental psychological control considering the dimensions of manipulation and lack of respect in two educational institutions in the city of Cuenca. The study followed a quantitative approach, of a non-experimental type of descriptive scope with a cross-sectional design, the sample was made up of 270 adolescents, 91 women (33.7%) and 179 men (66.3 %) between 13 and 15 years old with an average of 13.77 belonging to the tenth year of Basic General Education of two educational institutions. In the process, the sociodemographic record and the Self-Report Scale of Psychological Control for youth (PCS-YS) were used (Barber, 2012). The results obtained based on the objectives show that the tenth year students of Basic General Education of the two educational institutions do not perceive a high parental psychological control. Additionally, it was found that adolescents perceive manipulation more (56.8%) than lack of respect (43.2%) by their parents. It is concluded that the sample does not perceive a high parental psychological control, so that the intrusive actions of manipulation and lack of respect do not affect their autonomy during their development period.
