Abstract: | Objective. Evaluate and modify knowledge, attitudes and practices of students in the school of Social Work from the University of Cuenca on sexual transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS.
Materials and methods. With a design cuasiexperimental (before and after) included 100 students from the school working social of the University of Cuenca, instructional period 2008-2009, who conducted a survey on knowledge, attitudes and practices and self-efficacy, scale before and after a module educational intervention.
Results. 100 Students participated before and after the intervention. The average age of the sample was 21.8 ± 4.2 years. 63 % Was between 18 and 21 years. Prevailed 85% women and single men were 87%. 91% Was Catholic and 88% of the resident sample in urban area.
The age of first intercourse is 17.7 ± 2.2 in 56% of the sample, 44% (2% men and women 42%) said not having a sexual relationship.
Modification of knowledge about ITS routes of transmission, symptoms and forms of healing (P < 0.05) was obtained. Increased use of prophylactic intention (P < 0,05). Practices increased the consistent use of condoms (P < 0.05). Intervention raised the level of self-efficacy and culture of monogamy (P < 0,05),
Conclusions: educational if modified knowledge, attitudes and practices, the students of the school of social work of the University of Cuenca, on STIs and HIV/AIDS and raised the level of self-efficacy to HIV/AIDS intervention.

Description: | Con un diseño cuasiexperimental (antes y después) se incluyeron 100 estudiantes de la Escuela de Trabajo Social de la Universidad de Cuenca, período lectivo 2008-2009, a quienes se realizó una encuesta sobre conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas y escala de autoeficacia, antes y después de un módulo de intervención educativa. Resultados: participaron 100 estudiantes antes y después de la intervención. La edad promedio de la muestra fue de 21,8 ± 4,2 años. El 63% estuvo entre 18 y 21 años. Predominaron las mujeres con el 85% y los solteros fueron el 87%. El 91% fue católico y el 88% de la muestra residente en zona urbana. La edad de la primera relación sexual fue de 17,7 ± 2,2 en el 56% de la muestra, el 44% (mujeres 42% y varones 2%) aseguró no haber tenido relaciones sexuales. |
