Abstract: | Background: the difficulties of access for taking Pap test favor a higher mortality
rate from cervical cancer in Latin America. In Ecuador in 2017, it represents the
second most frequent type of cancer. By reducing barriers to the Pap, this
pathology will be better controlled.
Objective: to establish the barriers to access the Papanicolaou at Parroquia
Sidcay, Cuenca 2020.
Methodology: an analytical cross-sectional observational study was conducted in
316 women of childbearing age. The information was obtained using a form. The
analysis was performed with frequencies, percentages, average and standard
deviation, the association between the barriers with the Pap test was determined
with the Odds Ratio with its 95% CI and multivariate logistic regression. Statistical
analysis was performed in Excel V. 2016 and SPSS V.22.
Results: of 316 women, 11.7% are unaware of the test; more than 60% believe
that it is painful, fear, shame and / or reject a professional man. Less than 5% is
negatively influenced by the community. Pain perception (OR 1.82, 95% CI 1.16-
2.85), fear (OR 2.50, 95% CI 1.59-3.94), shame (OR 1.77, 95% CI 1.09-2.87),
rejection of a male doctor (OR 2.40; 95% CI 1.35-4.27) and poor relationship with
staff (OR 2.12; 95% CI 1.12-4.01) are statistically significantly associated with
performing the PAP test.
Conclusion: the main barriers are the individual factors associated with a low
number of Pap tests performed. |
dolor (OR 1.82; IC 95% 1.16-2.85), miedo (OR 2.50; IC 95% 1.59-3.94),
vergüenza (OR 1.77; IC 95% 1.09-2.87), rechazo a un médico hombre (OR 2.40;
