| Abstract: | Background: Bipolar spectrum reveals a high economic and social impact, related to suicide risk and comorbidity with substance abuse. Between 20% and 30% of cases, appear before the age of 20, where 66% of adults had symptoms before the age of 18 (5).
Objective: Determine the prevalence of the bipolar spectrum and associated factors in students of the medical career of the University of Cuenca, period 2019.
Methodology: It was an analytical, cross-sectional observational study in the Medical Career at the Universidad de Cuenca. The universe was 1,375 students who attended the university in 2019. A sample of 208 students were determined. For the collection of information, we used forms previously developed; whose data was processed in Excel and SPSS statistical software, where the frequencies and percentages of the different variables were studied.
To determine the association with the studied factors. We used the RP with a 95% Confidence Interval, 5% error and a statistical significance of p <0.05 obtained by (chi cuadrado).
Results: The age ranges were between the ages of 18 and 29 with a media of 20 years; there was a predominance of the female sex; 97.12% are single. Of the total results obtained, 93 cases of students were identified with a mild condition for mania.
Conclusions: The prevalence of the bipolar spectrum in 208 students of the Medical Career of the University of Cuenca period 2019 was 1%. |
| Description: | Antecedentes: el espectro bipolar revela un elevado impacto económico y social, relacionado a riesgo suicida y comorbilidad con abuso de sustancias. Entre el 20% y el 30% de casos, asoman antes de los 20 años, donde el 66% de adultos tuvo sintomatologías antes de los 18 años (5).
Objetivo: determinar la prevalencia del espectro bipolar y factores asociados en estudiantes de la Carrera de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca, periodo 2019.
Metodología: fue un estudio observacional analítico, transversal, en la Carrera de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca. El universo fue de 1.375 estudiantes que acudieron a la universidad en el año 2019, se determinó una muestra de 208 estudiantes. Para la recolección de información se usaron formularios previamente elaborados; cuyos datos se procesaron en Software estadístico Excel y SPSS, donde se estudiaron las frecuencias y porcentajes de las diferentes variables.
Para determinar la asociación con los factores estudiados, se usó la RP con un Intervalo de Confianza 95%, error del 5% y una significancia estadística de p<0.05 obtenida mediante el chi cuadrado.
Resultados: los rangos de edades oscilaron entre los 18 y 29 años con una media de 20 años; existió un predominio del sexo femenino; el 97.12% son solteros. Se identificaron 93 casos de estudiantes con una condición leve para la de la manía.
Conclusiones: la prevalencia del espectro bipolar en 208 estudiantes de la Carrera de Medicina durante el periodo 2019 fue del 1%. |
